To be Honest, Day One, I wasnt expecting a lot of families to get onto the camping bandwagon this year. ;)
Yeah Skywalker, trying to organize a camping trip for 100 odd people who would spend atleast 2/3 days and nights together is kinda unrealistic. :D
The organizing part is a no brainer. But, we are probably dealing with lot of other issues here.
a) We dont even know the level of enthusiasm or the commitment by again i wonder how many people ?
b) The comfort level across families aint there yet.
c) We have a lot of veggies/non-veggies here. ( Needs to be delicately addressed ;) )
d) We are probably dealing with people of varying beliefs/backgrounds/personalities/habits,etc,etc... from different parts of our subcontinent.

So bottom line : the trust or the comfort level aint there yet. Am i wrong?

But, I also believe that its realistic if the expectations are tuned appropriately. Yeah, we are not there yet :)
Perhaps to start off, we can work on building that comfort level for our GTA fellow-mates.

Maybe next year, we can attempt another combined effort. ;)
On my end, i am definetely going camping this year, and can assist anyone else who is interested. Again, its a no-brainer, and once u do it, next time, u'll all be into it by urselves. :) Its highly addictive

For all the people who showed their camping enthusiasm, PM me if ur still interested, let me know ur thoughts and we can see if we can work out something here :) \"Together we can achieve more\"

So to avoid further confusion and to concentrate our efforts only on picnic, lets not talk about camping anymore on this thread. Right? or if u disagree, we could discuss this further.

As for the picnic, Skywalker, ur giving us a wonderful start.
a) I volunteer and
b) Please count the number of people as 4 for me for this event. :)

For raising that comfort level,
For people from Mississauga, How about a lunch this friday from 12-1 at the Sarvarna Bhavan at the corner of Hurontario/Eglinton ?

We are getting there... Keep going guys....

BTW, From people who attended last years picnic, can we have some answers for the following questions. Lets use ur experience here :
a) List the highlights of last years picnic
b) Who were the organizers? Are they re-volunteering this year? What were the challenges they faced?
c) Number of people who attended ?
d) Ratio of newcomers to old-timers ?
e) Location
f) Food
g) Identify what we missed on last time and what could be done better this time

:p bison

Well, when do we plan it? Camping I may not attend due to small kids but picnic is not a problem at all. However, experienced members let me know if it cause a problem to kids age 8+ and 4+.

Bison , Dp_jain , Reachash , G G , ...... how about

Venue : Central Island , Toronto
Date: 19th or 26th June 2005
Event : Picnic

Once we settle on a certain date ( with consensus) we can start from there onwards .... I would suggest we ask GG to post it on the front page for all and every visitor ... this way the "Desi Picnic" gets exposure ..... and we keep a certain deadline for entries or comittments and work from there onwards. Once we have a desent idea of the participants and the dates etc etc we can delegate or distribute responsibilities and ask for more volunteers to help each other out .... how about it ..... your input please .

" This post is meant for everyone in general .... and if anyone wants to join in as a volunteer .... please free to coment or add their ideas ........... The above venue and date is a suggestion only !!!!!

These dates would not work for most people due to school exams in the last week of June. Atleast for me it is out of question.

Sometime in July would be ok.

One day pic not a problem. However, 2-3 days pic can b considered if pre-planned.
