Say, for some genuine reason(s), I can't land within the dates as mentioned in my visa. The reasons can be accident & hospitalization, riots, floods, etc., etc.

Does the CHC take into consideration the prevailing situation and allow me to land even after the visa expiry date?
Or do I need to undergo the application process all over again?

Please let me know.

Thanx

Post this topic under immigration section and masoodji will happy to answer!

As Maxim said if possible come here for a day or week and then go back that would be the best option.
If cant come now try to extend expire date, contect CHC as soon as u can. ask masoodji or any senior member about more detail on extension process and how long u can get?

Yeah, this question definetely deserves an expert answer, because I imagine lots of people will have this question.
I had once looked into it a long time back and at that time, it seemed that there is no way out of it - either you land by the date stamped, or you lose it - no exceptions.

Would be interesting to know whether anything has changed or not, especially in light of events in the past few years (natural disasters, 9/11 attacks, etc.).

if you will read carefully http://www.cic.gc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK
probably they have answer of your question.
as far i know they will not extand your visa in any case.
why you c,nt come here for only for few hours and get back(even same day)
this is just matter of money/you can avoide all hactics.:)

Maxim, its not an issue about money or anything. I was just wondering that in case one misses the deadline due to some genuine reason(s), what can be the possible repurcussions....
Anything can happen to anyone, at any time. The recent sunami is the most glaring example of that.................

Hi maxim

why are you taking such a risk? I personally know a person who
got PR visa, he went to canada a number of time during the visa
but he failed to fullfill the residency obligations.(Two years )
His PR was cancelled.
Recently he applied for a tourist visa to see his seriously sick
brother ,HE WAS REFUSED THE VISITOR VISA. logic of people at CIC was
"when you were given a chance of PR, you did not make use of it
you wasted our resources and time"
Theese people are very unreasonable and at any given time flooded with
applications of people wishing to immigrate to canada.
They wont give you a second chance.
You better go to canada for some time and come back.
or the best is you can go to mission and give a request, if they dont
give you extension pack your bags and reach canada before the visa expires.
You can allways comeback and settele the current affairs over
here.

Its your life decide the best, but keep your options open.
Now it may be seeming not the right time to move to canada, but
who knows tommorow? May be after some months you
want to go, but the doors would be closed then.Try keep the
oppurtunity till you can.

best of luck
