Hello Everyone,

I am planning to Land in Canad in February end. I got my PR visa. Some of the things I want to know from all those who travelled from New Delhi airport in the past or recently. My questions are:

1. Do I need to get the Income Tax Clearance before leaving on my PR visa at the airport.

2. Do they (immigratin people at Delhi airport) ask me to show the proof of funds that I will be carrying along, I mean receipt of the money with me Cash / drafts / traveller cheques etc.

3. I have applied for PR in SW federal category and on my COPR form final destination is winnipeg. Will there be any problem if I land at Toronto airport?

4. I am planning to go to UK and want to stay there for 4-5 days before entering Canada on my PR visa. Do I need to attach any documents while applying for UK visitor visa or simply I submit my passport which already has a Canadian PR visa?

5. Can I take along some common medicines with me while coming to Canada like Disprin, Zupar etc. Is carrying common medicines to canada allowed?

6. Please suggest some airline which is cheap and best for travelling Delhi-Lndon(UK)-Toronto-Winnipeg.

Nope.
You can land anywhere.

Personally, I would say you should bring your own medicines, at least for the most common stuff.
Just in case, get the prescription along as well.
I don't think there is any need to declare them at all.
The OTC drugs available here are absolutely useless, and very often dangerous.
The prescription ones are even worse.
As far as possible bring your own preferred drugs or treatment material with you.

Hope this helps.

No, you can at any Canadian port except those in Quebec.

Do mention on your UK visa app. that you are en route to Canada. That may hasten the approval of your UK visa.

I would like to know more about this. Fake drugs is a major issue in India. Drugs are pretty expensive in Canada.

In India, they check only passports and visa. Personally I have not seen anybody asking for proof of funds for Canada when leaving India.

I was saying purely from a pragmatic perspective.
I am sure you cannot routinely "import" prescription drugs from India.
Once we had to import some prescription drugs from India (prescribed by doctor in India) to the US and had to give all sorts of documents, etc. including our visa papers to the US customs.
I don't know what out visa status had anything to do with importing drugs, but they asked for it specifically.

However, when you travel, I think you can bring some common drugs with you.
Don't explain, don't complain !

As for drugs in Canada, yes, they are expensive compared to India.
A lot of that has got to do with the proprietary versions of generic drugs.
The big pharma companies are trying to push the same in India and other developing countries by patenting the ingredients and salts in a lot of life-saving drugs.
Both life-saving and life-style drugs are subject to this patent war right now.

Personally, I find the medicines in India more effective than the ones in North America.

Assuming, we are all talking allopathy here,
Effective? Yeah, if they are giving u 4 tablets dose to swallow for a simple fever :D

We have stricter laws here, based on research/studies/policies...(that very well apply HERE). For lots of common ailments, they want ur body to build its own resistive power, which works pretty well HERE because of lack of pollution, cleaner environment, less diseases because of healthier living standards, food standards,etc,etc...

Usually, u dont find that attitude in India. U go to a doctor whose medicines work fastest. No one cares if there are long term impacts because of the stronger doses!!! Sure, some doctors;) know the right combinations that work best, but i still think that people try to get rid of their cold/fever/ailments in a day or two, which can have heavier long term impacts. Anyways, given the demographical standards, its what works best for that area.

Frankly, I dont have nothing against Indian or Canadian medicines....
For short term, yeah, you should carry-over,
But for longer term, i feel its best to get adapted to the local line of treatment.
It aint right to say this is right and that is wrong.

Now heres something that i personally heard from a well reputed doctor here in Toronto "For common ailments, When in India, Indian medicines work great!!! The doctors there know what kind of combinations/doses work right!!!" This Canadian doctor from Toronto was visiting India, and went to a Indian doctor (his friend) for his son's fever/cold which wouldnt go after a week. :) After taking those indian medicines, his fever/cold was gone within 2 days, and this doctor was impressed ;)

Now, IMHO, As for importing medicines, There are import laws here. Depends on the type of medicine u import.
For common medicines, like ur diabetes/BP pills all you need is a doctors prescription and a brief letter from ur doctor explaing ur diagnosys and treatment history.

For other types of medicines, there are stricter laws, and i am pretty sure, there are alternative ways to justify.

Now, some medicines/drugs are banned here, and ur in for deep shit, if u bring 'em in. U know what i am talking about :D

Now to answer our decent punjabi's question :

Quote:

5. Can I take along some common medicines with me while coming to Canada like Disprin, Zupar etc. Is carrying common medicines to canada allowed?

Yeah, IMHO, For OTC medicines like asprin,paracetamol,rubs,etc,etc... within reasonable limits, u dont need to worry even about a prescription.
For medicines used to treat specific ailments, get the prescription and a letter from ur doctor listing ur diagnosys and brief patient history ;) U'll be ok.

NO ALL THE CURRENCY/ DRAFT THAT U LL CARRY WILL B MENTIONED IN UR PASSPORT. JUST ENSURE U DONT CARRY INR>500/- BEYOND THE CUSTOMS

4. I am planning to go to UK and want to stay there for 4-5 days before entering Canada on my PR visa. Do I need to attach any documents while applying for UK visitor visa or simply I submit my passport which already has a Canadian PR visa?

HMM I GUESS U R TRAVELLING ON BA . IF U CAN ATTACH THE COUNTERFOIL OF YOUR TICKETS AND ON A SAFER SIDE ATTACH AS MANY DOCS AS POSSIBLE FOR A UK VISA APPLICATION.

6. Please suggest some airline which is cheap and best for travelling Delhi-Lndon(UK)-Toronto-Winnipeg.

CHECK OUT BA AS THEY WILL HAVE A STOP OVER @ LONDON AND U CAN BREAK JOURNEY FOR 4 - 5 DAYS IF U HAVE A VISIT VISA.
