It is a real good topic that you have come up with for discussion. As of now I am in the US working as a research engineer in a well reputed university in Florida. I am myself thinking of Canadian immigration in the next couple bcause of the following reasons:
1. Job stability: I am really not sure when one is going to get laid off. Although I am in a university job which most people would think is quite stable but at present nothing seems to be stable.
2. in case of getting laid off chances of getting another job seems quite remote. Jobs scenario is not that good. Infact I have a bunch of my friends who graduated with me go back to India. Of course all of them found jobs in India. India as of now for seems to be the land of opportunity
3. There is also a H1 cap every year of 65000 or I should say 58500 to be precise that are open to desis and and this cap got filled up on the October 1st 2004 the first day for the year 2004-2005
4. Getting green card could be a long wait sometimes even upto 6 years. The reason because there have been so many layoffs in the last 3 years the governent has become really strict and do extensive background checks before issuing one
But looks like they are planning to set up a new system called PERM sometime March this year which could expedite the whole green card process
