I think Indian Govt. should order an express inquiry since the names of Indian idols like Kalam and Kalpana are involved. This matter should not be left to inapt investigative journalism.
It is a matter of deep concern how easily a 17 year village simpleton hijacked the media. It is very likely that some vested interests are working behind the scene. The real players should be exposed.

check this out. I resent the way the article starts
"In a country hungry for international recognition, 17-year-old Saurabh Singh was feted as a national hero ....."
this is hilarious though " Singh told Reuters he stayed in a hotel, but told a Hindi language newspaper he stayed at Buckingham Palace"

I think something good may come of this whole mess. Hopefully the Indian media will have do at least some preliminary investigation themselves before rushing to publish such hogwash again.
I doubt it wil happen, however I agree fully with YoursTruly that the govt. should conduct a thorough investigation into how something like this propagates and how someone like this gets to meet the president. Members of the media who published this without checking anything should be reprimanded and the family should also be punished so as to set a legal precedent.

This just keeps getting worse.......
Apparently, the UP cabinet had announced a cash award of Rs 500,000 and felicitations were planned by the President and Prime Minister!
........"there's a sucker born every minute".....
Unfortunately, this is neither the first nor the last of such incidents. Desis the world over (including on this site) are so desparate to see Indian success that they'd clutch at any straws that come their way.....any thoughts on this anyone?

It happens at one of the most prestigious newspapers in the world too, i.e. the NY times. Does Jayson Blair ring a bell? He not only got away with it for a full year, I think he went on to write a book about it....
I just hope this kid doesn't do that..
