well its funny but im disappointed at the same time, i know ottawa_nerd is a senior member of CD , but i guess this is a indian attitude, you discourage pple or make fun of them, when a new idea comes in! , I did the same message on another forum, they were very co-operative and were interested. Im not generalising indians as a whole, but havn't we all thought why we are lacking in inventions, a country with full of intellectuals, but the ratio of inventions and new ideas are not same...

please dont fight with me coz you feel i degraded indians, i dont, and i m not like many so called indians who believes indians are cheaper than other races...

again i know hotmail was invented by an indian;)

Psycho..maybe you should read the message by Dio...
We live in the world of scamsters/deceit and hence, the first level of defence is to treat any such "new initiatives" as a scam. Moreover, you have not given any information as to what you want to do..or how you want to do...makes that even more suspicious !... How do we know you are not trying to scam us ? The onus is on you (as Dio has pointed out)...to inform us what you want to do...only then will you find ppl ready to respond to you, POSITIVELY....

Maybe its high time you explained your position clearly (an not vaguely as in IT and no IT)..and then see what kind of replies you get..and yeah I do know who invented Hotmail ! The guy who conned Bill Gates into forking out 400Million USD !!!!

Well i was throwing an initiative so i can gather people and then discuss, rather than just speaking my idea , and i dont understand about scams, how exactly you mean when i speak about doing somthing different sounds as a scam.

Ok to dio's reply i did give an example of WIKI, even gave a link, its an online encyclopedia , which recently got a lot of importance.

I was thinking similarly to create a online language translation site, which any one can translate from one language to another. Coz recently when i was chatting online, i got a message in my IM , it was another language which i dint know, so i tried to search in google/yahoo. To my hard luck all i could find that it was vietnamese. So i was thinking what if a site which can translate any language to another. I know there are alot of paid translation services. But doing this kind of project we are actually breaking the language barrier. Just like WIKI or LINUX it can be a open project run by volunteers. There are thousands of language too. I know its not as easy as it sounds, but let me know ur opinion.

Lycos runs similar project called bablefish. but very limited to languages.

Now you are speaking up !..Language translation is indeed a challenging task. Unf even established language translators have problems...You see Humans have a tendency to expression their feelings in terms of context. However, for a computer there is no such thing as "context"...I suppose there is innumerable research going on how to come up with computers that can "mimic human emotions".....

You will be better off starting off with a translation of one language only (say English to Hindi)...

"Maine yeh baat keh daali"
"I this word said"....which makes no sense....

In order to come up with contexts you have to make the computer learn billions and billions of possible combinations of each sentence !.. Surely that is not an easy task, but surely it is also not impossible ! Are you planning on writing some software for this purpose ?

Psycho..I dunno how you can go about doing it. The topic of Language translation is by itself a research topic. You can very well get a PhD in that topic. I dunno if Babelfish will bother incorporating a Hindi-English-Hindi translator in their system.
Though not IT...but yeah, I am in a different field of computers i.e., Computer Vision...not speech, but at least trying to make computers smart so that they can recognize useful features in images...(similar to humans).

More stars = more posts !(non garbage posts of cos :D )
