IMO, France did a ridiculuous thing by banning the symbols. This ban is a blatant attack on freedom of religion and expression.

Doing the same in Canada! Well :( and then talking abt multiculturalism, freedom of expression etc wont make any sense.

however France is a different nation. They are not an immigrant nation.

10% muslim population , mostly people from north africa who immigrated (legally or illegally) + a lot of french speaking people from other African countries.....they even call the french soccer team Senegal B....:D

So there are a lot of immigrants there.

-----------------
http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/fr.html#People

This website says 5 - 10 % Muslims.

--------------
Net migration rate:

0.66 migrant(s)/1,000 population (2005 est.)

Would translate to .66 * 60000 = 39600 for 2005.

I never said there were no immigrants, however it is not a country of immigrants. Canada, US, Australia were all built over time by the contributions of people from around the world, France was not. Therefore a very different mentality exists. The native inhabitants of Germany and England also feel this way, it is expected.

But the move is to preserve secularism than any old culture.
Obviously the underlying theme is muslim fundametalism or how to lessen its effects.

But as I said in another thread here, they are trying to pin actions of a community on a piece of garb.
