Perhaps, and I see the how the action seems irrational. But in terms of the legality and the integrity of the law, I see nothing wrong with it.

Hi Das-FX,
Thanks for bringing up native french perspective. But again in this world of globalization, the insecurities (!) of local people are going to keep them in their own little shell, if such racial or religion profiling kind of laws keep on getting in.
Even if we consider that France is not a country made by immigrants, still however there are lot of people practising different faiths/religions there. I am sure you know, in reaction to this religion symbols banning, another school there banned any christmas chocolates. And when this happened, local people got a feel of the pain inflicted on others in the form of this discriminatory law.
In any situation, I am not in the favor of such discriminatory laws. Live and Let Live. Treal All Equal. These two principles are easily said than done. Whoever does practise these, have enough peace of mind, I think.
Regards.

If the tables were turned, and a sizable influx of Caucasians moved to India such that they represented 10% of the total population, do you not think Indians would become defensive of their native culture, language and so on? Do you really think Indians would treat these people equally, in terms of employment and social status? Wrong as it may be, it is a reality.

Most European countries open their doors to immigrants with the understanding that these people are coming to France because they like France; they like the culture already in place and want to be a apart of it. I would say that most French would be opposed to immigration if it meant the loss of the native culture, regardless of the skin colour of the immigrant. The French like being French and want France to remain French.
