As far as my knowledge goes there are no charges for depositing the draft in your account in Canada.

If you bring Can $ draft, deposit in Can $ a./c. If you bring US $ draft, deposit it in USD a/c so that you donot loose on exchange.

Hi,

in my opinion, I find most banks the same. This said, TD Canada Trust has longer hours and thus very accessible. I find Royal Bank a bit stuck up and not very convenient in terms of availability of branches and working hours. Credit availability is not very difficult with this bank though. Scotiabank offers somewhat better service and convenient hours on the weekend. I believe they are more liberal in approving credit cards. CIBC requires some improvement in service levels and customer management, though has branches everywhere. They are somewhat conservative with extending credit or issuing credit cards for new comers. HSBC...very few branches and I find the service fees higher than competition.

And don't ever think of ICICI...their service is pathetic!

Thanks Rajeev for your opinion,

It appears that Scotiabank is liberal for credit cards as well as provide reasonable service .

Royal Bank has easiest credit card issuance but low on service otherwise .

CIBC is conservative on credit card but has good network .

Having concurred that may I ask u some more qs :-

a. Which of the above banks have convenient online banking system ?

b. Which of the above banks have better ATM network ?

In my experience with RBC (Royal Bank) and TD, I would pick TD for both your above questions, although, it looks like you are looking among Scotia, RBC and CIBC.

And yes, backing Rajeev, TD is much much much better than RBC.

Hope this helps.

Credit wise ( issuing a credit card to newcomers) other banks are conservative.
TD is better. when I opened a checking account and they gave me a credit card as well without asking for;
TD bank also has good weekend working branches.
Service ... I had no issues so far.
I also bank with CIBC, but like TD more.
