Hey there Mercury

Being on EI is no bar from attending a HRDC course, infact a person on EI is a priority client for them.

Hey Soberflier
What are HRSDC courses .........

The EAP goes into the system as your plan of action and even when you, if you chose to, apply for OSAP for a course, it adds weight to your application.

OSAP is a loan which you repay with interest (you do not have to be on EI to apply).

HRSDC would give a grant for a course to take the person off EI. Job search workshops are part of employment action plan (EAP). My understanding is that only when job search workshops do not help that HRSDC goes for funding a course.

If a person is able to get OSAP, would HRSDC still go ahead and give a grant?

Grant is for people with no money. Even if you apply for OSAP there are 2 components. One is loan and other is grant. Depending on your annual income and study expenses loan and grant are adjusted.
OSAP is for full time college or university program. Where as HRSDC is for job ready training. Like mercury6 would like to do a training which can be approved by HRSDC but if he would like to do MS for that OSAP is the only option.
Both are designed with different purpose.

Thanks all.

I am really debating whether it would be any good to do a course even if HRDC approves funding. I am seriously doubting that it would help.

I am going through the regular IT schools like CDI etc...

For example CDI ha s a1 year course (costs about 15,000). It bgins by telling me what a computer is and the different parts. Apparently they spend quite some time on it too.....Then later comes some useful stuff that I could do on my own. And anyway I would need to certify in those area.

I would however have that "Canadian" qualification.

BTW, the consellor asked me if I had completed any education in Canada....
