We would be going to Hamilton for a day. We are missing eating Indian food in a restaurant. Any suggestions for a desi place, not expensive, near the downtown - Hamilton? South Indian would be excellent.

Hamilton is a much smaller place than GTA. There are very few good Indian restaurants around here. Most of what pass as Indian are actually restaurants run by Bangladeshis and the food gives it away.
A recent addition downtown is A Taste of Taj Mahal(formerly The British Raj) on King William Street. It is not bad, but not anywhere near the better ones in Mississauga and Toronto.
Sorry, nothing on the South Indian food here.
I don't understand but you live in GTA. Then why are you looking for Indian restaurants in Hamilton?

We do not get much time. We have a day off but have to go to hamilton, so might as well enjoy out there.

there is a restaurant called Himalaya in East Hamilton. It is a great pure vegetarian punjabi-run restaurant with great and CHEAP spicy food/snacks. We loved going there when we lived in hamilton. They are closed on Mon or Tue (forget which). A great find in a wasteland of otherwise BAD indian restaurants there.
(dont know their address/phone number - call directory assistance in hamilton)
