Hi All !!!
I have to get tourist visa for India. I am a Canadian Citizen. What documents do I need ?Can anyone briefly explain me the procedure?
I am coming from Hamilton. If I drop off my visa application at Indian Embassy in Toronto Downtown in the morning, Would they issue the visa same day ? Is there a long line up?
Any other Indian Embassy location in Toronto? because in downtown its hard to find parking.
Parking no problems at Indian Embassy. Drop you application early in the morning 90% chances to pick up the same day unless there is a proble. download the appliction and have your picture done. Fill up the form and give your passport. Get cash for your visa fee or moneyorder ( not sure what but it is clearly mentioned in the application form)
Not may people now as before looks like OCI is getting very popular.

There is free parking outside the embassy valid for one hour. You will find parking free at all time. Once you enter the embassy and get your waiting list no. then come outside and change the location of your car before the one hour gets over. There is paid parking behind the Indian embassy which is $2.50 an hour.
If you park at Kipling stn. on weekdays and during office hours you ill have to pay for parking. It is free only on weekends and hols.

Sidenote : I once parked outside the Indian embassy for 2.5 hours but still did not get a ticket. But that is just an exception. I also parked in the paid parking for 2-3 hours.

If they receive the application before 11AM then it will be given to you same day.
If you are applying for first time after getting your citizenship, remember to take 1) Cancelled PR Papers, 2) Old Indian Passport. Otherwise they will not process the application.
Park the car behind the consulate, there is paid parking. Parking Ticket in Toronto costs $95. You do not want to have that for sure.
Thank you so much all of you for your time and replies.
My mother needs to apply for a new Indian passport as her current passport is completing its 10 year validity in March of 2007.
My question is can I go to the consulate with her old passport, all other relevant documents, PR card etc and submit the application on her behalf? And then pick up the passport later when its done (5 days or whenever)?
Thanks
