What a shame!! I have a question though. Was the Doc a Permanent Resident of UK or just on a work permit? If he was a PR, then deporting him and his family is not justifiable.

More then shame!!! On the one hand few desis are making us proud here (Mittal for example) on the other hand this doc putting us down.
I think PR can be deported, coz they are not citizen, they hold their native passport.

A person is never more on trial than in a moment of excessive good fortune.
The question is not whether "PRs can be deprted" but "should they be deported". If a citizen was to committ the same offence, they'd get jail time. The doc is getting jail time AND getting deported, now that is unfair. In my book, that is discrimination based on National Origion.

IMO, Both are separate things. The issue are
1) Trial for criminal offence.
2) Visa review for a person.
as a PR he can face a trial.(A resident comes under jurisdiction of resident county).
It is then up to the country to review the VISA and take a decision.

I don't see why we have to be all up in arms about this? People like him are found all over the world and of all nationalities, including Canada.
