Hello Friends,
I am Satish here from India.
I am planning to start my process for canadian immigration, but I am confused as to which firm to choose who can file my papers on my behalf.
I have heard of 2 firms:- 1) Another one 2)Canwest.

Are there any friends there in Canada who have immigrated through any of these firms or people who have good knowledge abt these firms.

Could you please guide me as to which firm is best when it comes to submitting, handling my case and post-landing services.

Looking forward to your valuable feedback and suggestion.

Regards,
Satish Kumar.

Hi Satish,

Do you really feel the need for an Immigration Agency? Why don't you do it yourself, saving money and time. The process is not complicated and most of the required information is easily available on the internet. If you feel you have enough points to quality (minimum 67 points), I strongly recommend you to do it by yourself.

I agree with Shibu.
This website contains all the vital info required for a newly landed.
You do not need an agent to fill in your application form and submit your english scores.
As far as after-landing services are concerned, you may refer to the previous posts wherein some board members have shown frustration and found waste of money by hooking up some settlement agent.
This website provides you the info about :
where to book motel room/paying guest; how to get SIN/OHIP/driving license/fix resumes/temp job agencies, etc...
If you spend couple of hours and browse thru this website, you should be thorough with landing and settling procedures.

The article which I found really useful before I landed was the one titled 'First few days in Canada - What to do?'
http://www.canadiandesi.ca/article.php?AID=23&SID=100" target="_blank">http://www.canadiandesi.ca/article.php?AID=23&SID=100

After landing, I was able to submit my SIN card application (does the name imply that we have committed a major sin by landing in Canada!) and got my G1 driving license on the first working day. And I could submit the OHIP application and open a bank account on the second working day. So 2-3 days is what it takes for someone to complete the basic formalities if he has cared to spent time in collecting information. Once that is done, one can start the job search in earnest.

Apart from saving money, doing the immigration and post landing formalities by the individual himself has an additional advantage. He is forced to collect information about Canada and will be better informed regarding the ground realities than if he had gone through an a agent who probably would have told him that Canada is a land flowing with milk and honey.

Dear Satish:

I am from Punjab.
I would strongly advice you that you must not apply for immigration through any consultant/lawyer.If you are literate person and can't fill up the simple forms what is the fun of your education.
The thing is that applicants through consultants are very hardly handled by CHC, New Delhi (not only New Delhi but through any visa office throughout the world).
The example is myself. I applied in April 2000 through the consultant and till date I have not got any positive decision from CHC, New Delhi. Whereas I have seen so many cases who applied directly theirself are in Canada.
Consultants can not do anything regarding your file. CHC has only concern with the applicant. Govt. of Canada asserts the people to apply directly.

is ordered to refund the money to its client.

Being fed up with false commitments and poor services, some clients of a company claiming as worlds largest Immigration Consultancy and Services, have knocked the doors of Consumer Court for justice. They have been ordered to refund the charged amount with interest to its client. The clients got some relief from this decision. The company has failed to provide any better services to clients. These clients are asserting that they were taken in by the full-page, glossy mis-leading advertisements of the company which led them into believing without going through their bonafides. Some of these clients are even waiting for about 3 - 4 years who were promised to send abroad within 1½ - 2 years. When the clients demanded their money, the company asked for large deductions from the total amount paid. In addition, instead of refunding the money, the company was demanding more money from their clients which is a fraud. The clients are harrassed by the company mentally and financially. The company is mostly staffed by retired army officers to lend credence to their manipulation activities.

The consumer court order contains - "The opposite party did not give any assistance to the complainant" and "Amount has been received from the complainant in a fradulent manner to fleece an innocent persons." and "Opposite Party is not deficient in any manner in performing its duty." and "Opposite party has also failed to show how the opposite party is in a position to help/procure visa for immigration for any person from India to Canada. If the opposite party has no authority to get visa/immigration for any person from India to Canada, the opposite party has no right to proclaim to be a competent to do so, and on this proclaimation, charging of the amount from innocent persons with promise of immigration to Europian/American country, we are of the view that the opposite party is deficient in not providing promised service and also in not refunding the amount charged on failing to do so." And "The opposite party is directed to refund to the complainant a sum of Rs. 25,000/- and an amount equivalent to 980 US Dollars with interest at the rate of 9% p.a. from 26/3/2003 (date of filing of the complaint) till date of payment is made. Costs of litigation is assessed at Rs. 500/-".

Contact at for more clarification.

Govt. of Canada insists that Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) does not require the applicant to have a representative. CIC has tried to make application kits as simple as possible so that one can complete them oneself. CIC treats all applicants equally and does not provide preferential service to applicants with representatives. CIC asserts - "Beware of representatives who claim that you will get a visa, obtain citizenship or benefit from special treatment from the Canadian government by using their services. CIC is not associated with any representatives." This data has been obtained from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/represent.html." rel="nofollow">LINK
