Hello Friends,
I am an immigrant here for almost 2 years now. Changed 4 jobs, none of them related in any way to my professional background and am still upgrading my skills in my profession hoping to find a job which would at least be remotely related to my profession.
Lately I have started to think about Oman (Muscat). As far as my own research, and word from friends there goes, there are plenty of opportunities there.
It would really help if somebody can share his/her experience in that country in terms of quality of life, treatment of people from outside Oman, professional development and most importantly family life as I am married. Are there good schools to educate my children if I decide to stay on? Also what is the scope for teachers there as my wife is a teacher. What is a decent salary I would need to have a stable family life. Etc
Any advise would be of great help and would be appreciated.

I think Oman ( Muscat) is the best place on Eath. I was there for around 2.5 years. It is safe, clean & well aintained. + lot of respect for indians. Very near to India. Yes, there are lot of Indian Schools there. All modern facilities are there + no crowd / high cost like Dubai. If you can manage a job, go there immediately. you will enjoy there with family.

Thanks Desi Driller for the response. I was curious as to what should be the earning capacity thave a stable family life there.
Also if anybody can explain if it is really worth pulling on for 1 more year making myself eligible for Canadian Citizenship, apply for it and then move on. Lot of my friends here say it is worth thinking about it. Please advise.

professional development – DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AND THE COMPANY YOU WORK FOR, MANY ARE PROFESSIONALY MANAGED

most importantly family life as I am married – THIS IS A QUIET, SLOW COUNTRY. IF YOU AND PARTNER IS LOOKING FOR FAST LIFE THIS IS NOT THE PLACE.

Are there good schools to educate my children if I decide to stay on? – 4 INDIAN SCHOOLS (CBSE) AND 1 SSLC (KERALA) SCHOOL IN THE CAPITAL. ALL EQUALLY GOOD. THERE IS AN AMERICAN SCHOOL AND A BRITISH SCHOOL TOO.

Also what is the scope for teachers there as my wife is a teacher – I SHOULD SAY IT DEPENDS ON HER LUCK

What is a decent salary I would need to have a stable family life – MANY COMPANIES PROVIDE YOU WITH A FAMILY STATUS CONTRACT (PAID RENT, ELECTRICITY, WATER, HOME TELEPHONE, CAR, AIR TICKET FOR FAMILY UPTO HOME TOWN, MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR FAMILY). IN THIS CASE A MONTHLY SALARY OF RO300/- + ALL THE ABOVE IS GOOD FOR AN EXECUTIVE TO START WITH.

8 TO 10 BIG BUSINESS HOUSES CONTROL THE MAJORITY OF THE MAIN BUSINESSES IN OMAN.
