I am also investigating how to chose a good used car/mini van. I am planning to have it after 1-2 months. after reading to the experience of 'jake3d', I'll think twice even before dealing with Honda-certified cars. Btw, What are the charges of professional Inspector?

This is specifically for those in ONTARIO.

RE:- Ontario's Mandatory UVIP Report (Used Vehicle Information Report).

If this report shows the car was not originally bought in Ontario when it was new, means the car was brought into the province as a used car. That should be a RED FLAG for potential buyers.

Cars that are written off (due to a severe collision) in other jurisdictions can be re-built and are often sold in ontario as imported used cars. Some imported cars may simply have odometers that have been rolled back. Other jurisdictions include Quebec, other provinces and the USofA. So do not fall for the stupid excuses by the car sales folks.

So any car without historical information on the report should be regarded as suspect.

You can check the car's history at www.carfax.com unlimited reports for 30 days cost US $25.00. They have Canadian cars also in their database. I use to live in US and imported my car once I immigrated, so I know what documentation you should look for. I have all the original purchase receipts. I took this same car back to US after immigrating and re imported for the second time. car was registered in Ontario for about 7 months then 2.5 years in US and now again it's registered in Ontario. I checked CarFax.com history for my car and it shows all the records from US as well as Canada. So if you can get the history you shouldn't really worry about US model being a salvaged car. If it is salvaged, CarFax.com history shall say so. CarFax even gives a clean title warranty and will pay upto US $5000 if you find it otherwise. Hope this helps.
