The first ever SA english movie I saw was called Bhaji on the Beach - anyone seen it? It tackles the touchy subject of an unmarried indian young girl getting pregnant by a black guy as well as other issues...

The exact opposite of bollywood which is making films with anything but subcontinent background :D

I really enjoy the ones about 2nd generations or children of immigrant parents - because I can relate in many ways.

Yes.. However a large part of the money was the fact that Anupem Kher was the main character's father. (I really enjoy his acting).

As a second generation, one does not see the world, India or Canada (or US) the same way their Immigrant parents do. Its a balancing job all the time - to be 'canadian' with our friends/peers and be 'indian' at home and in our personal relationships. Its really hard to walk the line though all the time :)

PP, i agree with you memoirs of geisha was a well written book...havent seen the movie, and dont want to either, coz somehow when u read a book and imagine it...thats how you expect the movie to be...and the movie(s) never seem to meet the expectations!

Have read "the prophet" too, but didnt like it too much...maybe it was too heavy for me.:)

M_R, i have heard that Mukherjee's book is good, have u read the bride by the same author?

how about robert sharma...i think he is the one who wrote "the monk who sold his ferrari" that was a good read too.

The author is actually Robin sharma. This book is great .. I read it very recently.

"1001 lunches with Krishnamurti" by Micheal Kronen. It's a good book.
"Autobiography of a yogi" is great
"To be human" by Krishnamurti is a great book.
Arthur Osborne's book on Ramana Maharshi is good.
R K Narayan's books are awesome.
