Recently, there has been a noticeable change in the quality of English on the forum.
There have also been a "significantly high" (relative, of course) number of replies to post that point this out too. (in nice AND not-so-nice ways)

Does this trend reflect the quality of people coming into Canada ?
Does this have anything to do with the so called "whiners", who have problems in finding a job, etc. ?

Should the "senior desis" who advise the newcomers on "job-search issues" stress more on language skills ?

Well, we can't really impose a "good English" requirement on members. And overall, I don't have a problem with some loose grammar, that's just how things are...

It is annoying howveer when somone who obviously has pathetic English skills starts complaining about how Canada is "worst!" for immigrants...

I've addressed your PM

of course, you are not responsible for it in any way...and you are not SUPPOSED to impose it, and implement such standards on a public forum....
"Overall", I don't have problems with it either, and it's totally understandable.... but sometimes, even reading the posts gets pretty annoying/frustrating....
At times, even if we "feel" that we have an answer to the post, we are actually not sure of what the person is actually asking !!!

The intention however was to stress on the importance of language skills to the "newcomers"... without being too harsh on them.

As "seniors' the ones "mentoring" them should try to understand WHY the so-called whiners end up being the whiners, and try to help them out in whatever way we can...
Again, it is NOT your responsibility, but the responsibility lies collectivley on all those who try, and DO help these people....

(please feel free to critisize my grammatical/typo/structural errors too......but excuse me for this single post; have just returned home from one of the most amazIng live shows.....Roger Waters performing the "dark side of the moon"......AWESOME !!!)

(haven't got ur PM, please re-send. Thanks.)

To anyone who's been around on the site for a while it isn't too difficult to understand why.....Escapism.

And the most active of the whiners aren't on the site to seek help, they're here to whine..

So what do you propose? Is this fixable in any way?

I think you may want to join the MEMO group started by DT/SS and others. This is exactly what they do, i.e. take the online concept of CD a step further. Its a great way to put ideas into action, because you can only do so much with a web posting.

Secondly, once you join the group, you'll find out that its not always as easy as "helping out whatever way we can". There are those, who, in my opinion are stubborn/obstinate beyond help. I was discussing this with a fellow CD the other day that the catch 22 in helping people is the fact that the receptive minds are the ones that are the easiest to help, however those are also the ones that require the least help.
