An environment conducive to introspection and self-analysis/blame has been the gift of an advanced(well...in some ways) civilization. Self-analysis can lead to growth. Talking about Dresden...the four or so bombing raids lasting for a WEEK or so...majority of it over TWO days...oficially killed 35000(approx)....german sources claim the number is 3 times that.
Compare this to the Israeli Bombing of lebanon over a MONTH. 1000(approx) casualities. It will probably lead to another war too.
Pessimistically speaking: To win this war, maybe western civilization will become as barbaric as the islamic supremacists and fight the war on an equal footing. Once its done, it will probably be time for self-analysis and self-healing/growth again.
Optimistically speaking: With sustained efforts of people over the world, the violent/supremacist brand of islam is marginalised unconditionally. It dies a slow death.

But seriously, tell me...what do u envisage 3-5 years down the lane ? Will immigration from these "friendly & peace-loving" nations be curtailed or will it grow unabated ?.. Already there is clamour in Italy to curtail immigration from Muslim countries and encourage from Non-Muslim (read Catholic) countries ! Do you see such a scenario happening in the USA/Canada ?

Hope not. I would be against the same. I dont think it solves the problem and will only lead to further ghettoization of humanity. Besides the problems in the west are mostly due to 2nd generation immigrants. Their parents are mostly too busy settling themselves.They may tacitly agree with the supremacists..which is a part of the problem. If one so much as gives the impression of looking down on other religions, races etc...the children will pick up on the same. However, almost all races have people who do this regularly...you see examples on this forum itself. It only adds to the problem.
Its upto the society in the host countries to make sure that violent/supremacist ideologies are not condoned or accepted or made excuses for. Faced with enough non-violent pressure, I hope things change. Maybe people who know that there is no tolerance for this ideology here will not want to come here.
p.s: I dont think there are any constitutionally 'catholic countries'
except the Vatican and probably Brazil(I could be wrong). I hope it stays that way. I dont see any reason for 'islamic' or 'hindu' countries either.-----------------------------------------------------------------
