It was raining when I came out of office, to go back home at 11:05 pm in the night. I walked to Markham – Sheppard intersection, which is 10 minutes away with my $2 worth, very fragile umbrella. It kept snapping due to the wind.
I found some TTC buses plying. Found there are buses till 1:00 am in the night and felt good. The Don mills bus route-85 came at 11:33 pm.
The late 40s Driver did not even look at the Bus pass I was showing him. He just kept looking at the front glass. I had occasionally witnessed such behavior with some TTC drivers, hence just went in and had a seat.
There was another young Indian, with his laptop and umbrella, probably an IT person.
The Driver stopped near the TTC Garage. Another TTC Driver joined at this point. They kept talking and the Bus proceeded further to stop in front of a Tim Horton's coffee shop. The Driver stopped the Bus and was about to get down with his
friend driver to get a cup of coffee from Tim Horton’s. At this moment,
this Indian went to the Driver and requested to him that he also will get down to get a cup of coffee.
The Driver frowned and said “Have a seat”. But, this person repeated his requests several time, even though he kept telling “have a seat, you can’t get down” all the time. Then the driver said “You can’t get down, I can’t wait for you to come back” and went down the Bus with his friend. This Indian also went down and went
with them to the coffee shop. I wondered what is this fuss all about! why this driver is refusing to allow a passenger to get down with him, while he himself
is going to fetch a cup of coffee!
Naturally, this Indian was behind those two Drivers in the line at the coffee shop. I was observing all this from my seat. Then, suddenly, after getting his cup of coffee, this impatient driver came literally running to the bus along with his
friend, closed the Door. Seeing this, and by understanding the Driver’s intention, the Indian quickly came running towards the Bus, leaving his yet to be delivered coffee at the counter. He was almost near the door.
But, this fellow, simply started this Bus and went away. It was shocking to see such a childish and crude Behavior from this Driver. The friend Driver went near him and started talking to him while sipping his coffee. I guess, it was as if he telling to the Driver, he should not have done this. The Driver was talking
about his warning etc. The Indian’s laptop and umbrella was in the Bus, It was raining and he was stranded in the street! It was so pathetic situation and I was so angry, If it was Bangalore, the passengers would never have accepted this behaviour and would have immediately forced the Driver to stop the Bus. There were only 3-4 mute spectators in the Bus, it being a late night trip.
As the Bus neared its final destination, the Indian appeared in a stop and boarded the Bus. I think he made it here by catching a Taxi, I am not sure. He told “My Laptop was in Bus” in a low tone to the Driver (not in angry tone). The driver again said, “go and sit”.
It was really a bad experience. Some TTC Drivers, tend to behave badly with Asians, or Non-white people. However, I have seen many white drivers, who always thank and wish the commuters.
This fellow was an ugly exception to the good lot of TTC drivers.
I am still unable to digest this incident. How do think enthnic/communal violence spurts out? Repetitions of such small incidents are enough to breed and build up resentment among groups of people. It makes the sufferer to hate the community.
Do you have more details of the driver ??
Maybe something can be done about the incident......

I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible.
But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.
Not really. I did lodge a formal complaint at http://www.ttc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK using their online form, describing the TTC Driver in their format. Also sent the story to Metro news and The Star.
When on public transport, one should not be getting off the bus for coffee etc and then expect to get back on, regardless of what the driver is doing. I think this is common sense. However, having said that, this sort of behavior from the driver is unacceptable and he should certainly be reported.
Just wait one generation , by that time most of the white Canadians will be neck deep in debt and all desis who have scringed and scummaged and saved there money after working hard will be well off and they will be dominating the Canadian society.
Then you can have your revenge.
I can see it happening in the future. Desis are slowly creeping up to the top inspite of all difficulties like not having their qualifications recognized here, doing labour jobs etc.....
Desi's have the die hard spirit in them just like the pioneers who came to Canada from europe 200 years back.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Yes. What yelloknife says is correct. However, the person had request in this case as the driver was also going down for a personal act. Anyways, there was an
absence of cordial talk from the Driver.
I fully support the TTC driver. The Indian guy was a fool to leave the bus with the laptop and the umbrella behind. TTC drivers take a break at Tim Hortons if they are running ahead of schedule. This happens generally during late hours (non-peak times). If the TTC driver had allowed the Indian to come with him for coffee then maybe another passenger might have requested him to stop in front of a mac donalds so that he could run and relive himself/herself. The way that i see it is that the TTC driver has taught the Indian gentleman FREE Canadian Experience. I am with you to the fact that this would have only remotely / never happened to a White Cdn. but that is b'cos he knows how to behave himself. Another group of people who frequently get into trouble with TTC drivers are the black community.

Sidenote : 3 years before when i used the TTC to go to office on a saturday, i cut my fingernails on the TTC. I was told by the Desi Driver over the speaker that i should stop this b'cos is was an unhygenic thing to do. The TTC driver also told me to pick the cut finger nails from the floor and to dispose it into the dustbin outside (the TTC bus stopped at a shelter) and i did as he told me. I was feeling very insulted then b'cos i have seen people throw papers, coffee cups, food items inside but then consoled my self b'cos i learnt something new.
Another incident was when the TTC driver (an African) got angry with an East European for some trival incident. So it happens to everyone sometime or the other. It all depends on the decency, maturity of the immigrant.
Afternote : To the post directly below ->
The TTC driver did not make a fool of himself. The Indian only made a fool of himself by taking a taxi to the bus and politely asking for the Laptop. The TTC driver only gained on the naiveness of the Indian. Probably he would not have taken this risk if the other Individual was an African -Cdn.. Possibly if the Indian had shouted at the driver and created a scene and police were called in and the the other 4 passengers supported the Indian, then the TTC driver would have been made to look like a fool. But it did not happen that way. The TTC driver won all the way through and have you seen that when TTC drivers go for coffee, they generally lock the front door and go. This is to prevent individuals from entering the bus while he is on a coffee break.
He was eager to teach the Individual (Indian , in this case) a lesson so that other passengers are also taught a lesson based on this incident.

Rajuyuthi -> Seems that you are new here in Canada from B'lore. This kind of incidents happen all the time and if you feel disturbed each and every time, you just canot live here. This incident happended on the 4 th. day of me landing in Canada. I went to a wal mart and was shopping. On the aisle, there was a boy and a mum blocking the aisle. So i told "Excuse me" to the boy ( I had learnt it from my previous stints abroad) and moved on the side of him. Apparently, the mum did not hear me say that to him and proceeded to fight with me by saying " I think Excuse me would have been a right word. Why the hell do you guys ever come to Canada" . At this time , the boy came to my rescue , telling the mum that i had said "Excuse me". After this the mum apologized not once but twice. But the incident had left a deep scar in my mind. I was even thinking of catching the next flight home but i felt better in 1 or 2 weeks. Right from that day, life in Canada was full of insults, missed oppertunities, exploitation, racisim, cheating etc... but now my mind has grown numb. Even when a client of ours used the F word on me , some months back, I could not fight back. The surrounding environment, living pay cheque to pay cheque, lack of job oppertunities has made me this way. Maybe you will also be like that soon.
