Yes.. 80 sounds reasonable. In a year you will most probably break even and if it extends beyond 3+ years, it is gong to be very good.
One or other way, you could find other contracts also. From my perspective if I could get a contract with an average of 7 month/year with spouse doing a full time job, it going to be good.

Its initially for 6 months but mostly extendable . More can be known upon entering as you have mentioned .
Is it better to incorporate or be a sole owner to get max tax benefits ? How much time does it take to incorporate . Many Thanks to all .

Do you understand that the database architect is different from DBA who might earn more being in production due to 24/7 support but not the architect.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Well, I worked in both IBM and Oracle and also in Govt where contract is given to IBM / Oracle. An Oracle Apps DBA (usually come costly) from either of this company is paid $250/hour and again it is to IBM or oracle not to the individual. A director level on-site IBM person is charged $350/hour (to the corp). The rates will reduce considerably if the contract is more than month+, say six months.
After their commissions and everything , if IBM pays a Database Architect $175, on long term contract. it is a certainly a big thing, because companies to need to run cost-benefit analysis on consulting expenses and see how to bridge that. More over I wouldn't consider DBA and Database Architect to be so uncommon to raise the rate to such a level. It isn't like people writing device code for micro-elements which may not be a rocket science but uncommon hence the rate.
Without the knowledge of the industry, environment, position you are just trying to deter some one from his / her business. Never do that unless you know if a specific rate is set as standard in the industry. Though I can't validate still just because know of a unique case, you don't need to discourage.

As said before, it depends on company to company.
My friend in IBM earns $ 175 an hour as a Database Architect. He is actually from Bishop heber, Trichy and he is my relative too. The funny thing is that he is in a contarct job in the same company for 4 years + until I cut communication with him 1 year back. Go figure !!
You actually need to know insider information to get the right rates for any job.
Peace out

One question, are contractors required to charge GST/PST to their clients?
I charge just the GST (5%) along with the bill as my billing is more than 30K.
