Once upon a time (18 months ago) when i had a lot of free time at home and could not sleep early one Friday night, I opened an ICICI account with a amount of $200 (Hisave Account). I got $20 as bonus the next month and ICICI was very prompt in sending me e-mail account balances each and every month. I had joined this account with my TD bank account by sending them a Void cheque.
A few months later when i was in a financial crunch, I promptly transferred $222 to my TD Account leaving .07 cents on the ICICI account. Till this date, I still get monthly account (via e-mail) statements.
So looks like only customer service is horrible.

i have an account with ICICI bank and my entire savings are with them. till now i didn't face any problem. they do the basic banking. wht else i need from them.

They can do what they want to do in India but definately not year..i will stick to TD

A foreign bank won't get anywhere in Canada — even with high rates — if the service is not up to the standard offered by the Big Five Canadian banks.
Don't know why she says that when in her own column on several occasions she has commented on the plight clients have experienced with Canadian banks and how they, the banks, have botched up in their service standards and given the run-around to their clients until onyourside intervened, giving the impression that Canadian Banks give bad service.
In my case, I had a terrible experience with a phone company-Rogers to be exact-and for a month was given the cold shoulder until I wrote in to onyourside and within 48 hours, my issue was resolved and I was given a lot of freebies and apologies as compensation.
Service issues are in my opinion just as bad with 'Canadian' companies as with 'foreign' ones, be they banks or other.
Honestly this post was neither aimed at outsourcing nor at Desi companies.
I mentioned in my post that myexperience with HDFC was at par with the banks here and at lower cost.
As we all know outsourcing is not a dirty word anymore.
Each and every one of my friend who took a martgage with ICICI in India and my experience in dealing with them while i was in India was horrible..
They are a aviod aviod bank (india canada dosent matter)
I had a friend who quit working for ICICI in India..
They have this big adverts that they are open 8 to 8. This is at the cost of employees..My friend used to reach his office at 8 in the morning and return abck at 11. No overtime whatsover.. he finally quit.
On the other hand we have TD bank which also promises they are open longer time here, my friend works there, and they have proper shift timings set and he never works for more than 8 hrs a day..
I guess their closeness to the reliance group and the money they give to politicans makes them believe that they are gods and can do whatever they want..
well maybe in India but not here..
