Hi All,
We are planning to move to Vancouver in October 07 from Californina. I was wondering if there are any Indians or Marathi speakers in Vancouver or planning to move there? Would like to meet and make friends.
Cheers
Thanekar : I am moving from California to Calgary soon.
Just wondering if you have more information like car moving, furniture moving etc.
Regards

I havent done much research yet. One quote I got to move to Vancouver was about $6500. But I just learned about another mover called California to Canada movers called CSA - 866 543 7000. I will try calling them.
BTW, when did you land? And when you landed did you itemize all the things you were planning to get? Also curious, why did you chose Calgary? I know Alberta is quiet strong economically due to its rich enerygy resources and Calgary has low cost of living. But curious how is it professionally and for your career field?
Calgary has a very high cost of living and house prices are astronomical.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
hi
I am not marathi, but in vancouver ther is marathi association and they celebrate ganesh Utsav every year at burnaby temple.
Thanks roshah. Actually marathi or non-marathi does not make a big difference, just that it helps during festivals etc.
We were planning to move by Oct, but it may get delayed by few more months. I need to work out the job transfer, salary difference etc. I read and heard that Vancouver housing is quiet expensive. I have been to Vancouver couple times and I really like it a lot so we have our heart set on moving there.
Roshah, How long have you been in Vancouver, and how do you find it (especially the cost of living) ?
thanekar:
I choose Calgary because I got a job in Calgary.Calgary is cheap as compare to California for real estate and rents but its even more expensive than California for grocery and eating out in restaurents.
I like it here now as it has good public transport and right now its summer and not sure how I will deal with the cold in the winter.
