CBC reported yesterday that they are going to postpone this Passport business for Canadian entering US for another 17 months that is until early 2009. Hope this gets squashed along with the exit of Bushya.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
News today is that the passport requirement for land and sea crossings has been postponed to June 2009. It was initially Dec 31, 2007.
Nothing has changed for air travel, although, rules have been relaxed for US citizens until Sept 2007 since one hand said passport is required and the other hand cannot manage the huge influx of passport applications. So much for planning Those whose passports have been delayed just need to show a computer printout or the receipt proving they have applied for one.
Anyway, the June 2009 date might help US and Canadian citizens along with US PRs of other nationalities (who can get away by showing their Green card). Others who need a visa still need to carry a passport.
Also, there have been stories of Americans trying to enter Canada with a computer printout or a receipt as proof of passport application. So, if anyone is dumber than that, here it is...all these requirements are only applicable for entering US, not any other country in the world (oh wait, America is the world )
