I have been one of the biggest critic of Greg Chappell and the time he was appointed coach of Team india, I had the feeling that he came to destroy Team India and not to rebuild. Saurav' leadership showed Australia that Team India is a force to reckon and almost spoiled the Steve Waugh farewell in 2004.
However I liked one comment of Greg Chappell that if you want to play cricket like Aussie, You can not run like Zimbabwe. Now he is proving to right after seeing the state BBCI is running the show.
First BBCI must remove Dilip vengsarkar as Chairman of selection committee. He is the biggest culprit. First he said Laxman is not good for one day when Team was selected for South africa then Laxman was sent as replacement, and made vice captain. Next He made Sachin as vice captain for World cup and named no one as vice captain for Bangladesh tour. Now there are two Vice captain one for test Sachin and Dhoni for One day. How Sachin is no good a vice captain. then he should not be in one day squad. Vengsarkaris not having a balanced mind. By picking Gautam as replacement for Schwag for both one day and tests in England., he has committed another blunder as Gautam record is no comparison to Schwag. Team India or Mumbai india as more than half of the team is from Mumbai, remove a player and take replacement from Mumbai.
Do not know where the Team India is heading for????
It never ceases to amaze me how the Indian cricket selectors continue to bet on losers and under-performers since the earliest days.
Ajit Agarkar is the latest example.
He has never quite performed to "potential", which is dubious in the first place.
Dismal batting performance and not too impressive bowling either.
Yet he continues to figure in almost all major series and tournaments.
Why can't the selectors bite the bullet and bring in a promising specialist batsman or a specialist bowler instead of these quasi so-called "all rounders"?
Robin Singh was another example - thankfully he is gone from international cricket now.
An all-rounder in Indian cricket seems to be defined as someone who bats and bowls equally badly, rather than equally well.
The only real all-rounder we've had in recent times has been Kapil Dev, even though he continued to play long after he ceased to be effective in either area.
I wish we would dump as these all-rounders and pick 5 specialist batsmen and 5 specialist bowlers for both one-dayers and tests.
As someone said earlier, batsmen can't win you matches every time.
This is esp. true for test matches - to win a test match you absolutely have to take 20 wickets in 5 days.
You can win a test match by scoring less than 200 in each innings, but you can't win without taking 20 wickets.
Which is probably why we have been winning so few test matches lately.
The only real bulk wicket taker we still have is probably Kumble, although he is way past his prime.

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...

Pathan was good #7 in making, but then he lost his bowling. He should seriously have gone back to Akram.
Dravid has always preferred 5 Bowlers. I hope he finds at least 3 good wicket taking bowlers. I am not counting Kumble.

Both Ganguly and Tendulkar fall into this category.
So which new comer has been dropped after one bad performance ..... do you have a name ?
