Air Canada is banning all pets on domestic passenger planes from mid July. Pets will have to go by cargo planes. AC is waiting for approval to ban pets from international flights also.

I hate pets, so I wholeheartedly welcome this decision. May God bless Air Canada and sanity prevails upon the other airlines as well.

I disagree with this ban and It is not just pet owners that have a problem with it. Whats wrong with putting pets in the cargo hold area (if they are larger animals)? As I pet owner, IF i had to travel, I would feel more comforted knowing that they are in the same plane. Secondly, airlines do charge for animal transport..it isnt free.

When pets travel in the cargo hold area, there's a lot of space that's taken up because of ventilation requirements. AC has a pretty high load factor these days, and a lot more passengers check in bags because of the liquids ban on board. I believe that's the primary reason for the change in rule.
WestJet hasn't gone that route as yet, so passengers wanting to take their pets with them on the same flight do have an alternative...
'I Hate Pets' is an often heard statement but hate them to an extent that a decision of disallowing them in the cargo hold area is welcome !! interesting.
Well having pets around and loving them is really a great feeling. I think some one who hates them is deprived of self less love and the feeling of it.
I do respect the feelings of people who do not like pets but I am sure pet lovers do not mind one airline disallowing pets.

I've never travelled with my pet (except in a car) and I can understand the whole 'not having enough space' issue but this will no doubt be a hindrance to many people...
Ho hum, yet another inconvenience associated with air travel...
