Mel06 and Duncan,

I agree with both of you. They are part of our family. How can we leave behind a family member. I have never baught a pet in my life they have always come to me because their previous owner do not want them anymore. How can person be so colg hearted, I fail to understand. And these animals within no time these pet become a loving member of my family.
Good see so many animal lover here.

Take care of yourself and loving member of family

:)

What Duncan says is so true. If you donot know anyone in Canada, then donot bring the pet for the first time. It will be so difficult to find a pet allowed hotel or lodging unless you pre agree with the advertisers of accomodation found in CD classifieds if they will agree to allow pets in their lodgings.
In another alternate way, Leave a family member in India along with the pet and call them both when you have found a job in Canada and are settled.

Yes that definitely makes more sense.

Should settle family here first and then probably 2 months or so down the line go and get the pet. Anyways we can travel back after the PR card is through.

Have tried Googling pet friendly rentals in Calgary (where we intend to go first) and could not find any. Plus looking for a job and balancing other expenses will definitely be a priority initially. So hoping for the best and Many Thanks for Best wishes.

I disagree. With the PR you are allowed to come and leave Canada, anytime you want but would you spend $1500 for a return ticket to India?
If at all you want to migrate at the same time, it is NP. Just leave the spouse with the pet at the airport and search for a place which allows pets. This inconvenience and expense will be definitely worth less than $1500 anyway. In one or 2 days, you can get the apartment which allows pets. It is going to be summer and so donot worry about moving out doors. Taxi's allow pets to be inthe car. Besides, the Taxi driver can give you tips about apartment rents. Always rent a Desi taxi driver who can give you tips which can work for desi's.

Sidenote : Try CD classified or give out an advt. in the CD classified. Generally advertisers can come to the airport to pick you up for a very moderate fee.

Thanks TK : in my usual hurry did forget about the ticket part of it!

Do you think there are enough Desis in Calgary to provide such a support system. It would be wonderful if someone could pick us up at the airport and guide us through the initial strange days. I know there are a lot of Desis in Toronto & Vancouber but calgary seems a difficult bet.

Yes. There are a lot of desi's in Calgary who will do this kind of help for a small fee. Advertise in the classifieds and you will see the results. There are many CD's staying in Calgary. Even though they might not be able to help you personally, they can give you valuable tips.. It is not advisable to stay in desi owned residences as they are very picky and will quarrel for each and every thing that you do. Most desi's will not allow pets in their owned buildings. The best bet is to stay in Apartments where there is no Owner as such , only a caretaker will collect your rent cheques, clean etc... Best to stay in these kind of places. A desi can guide you. If you were to land in Toronto, i would have done this for you FOC (Free of Charge).
Try landing on a saturday . MOre desi's will be free on that day only and many apartment caretakers are available on that day.
Hope this helps.
