I need to move a couch and a bed from and to, to a condo in North York(driving distance max 6kms),I have never driven a big truck, I drive car here in GTA and hence have driving experience. Is it anything different driving a van? I plan to move the stuffs with couple of desi friends...need your suggestions...the moving companies quote astronimical charges..thks

Since you do not have much stuff, you could go in for a pick-up van as opposed to a truck. You just have to be careful when turning, changing lanes braking etc. The vehicle is big when compared to a regular 4-dr sedan, so manouvering turns can be a bit tricky, takes extra time to come to a halt when braking...simple common sense stuff.

On a side note... let me warn you of the quality of service at uHaul. I've used their trucks previously, all I can say about them is their customer service is one of the worst in the industry and so is the condition of their vehicles. I do not want to start a debate/discussion here, but if you google, you'll know what I'm trying to say. Inspite of booking 2 months in advance, you could be waiting for 2 hrs just to pick up your vehicle. So be prepared. As a suggestion, try and book something for 1st thing in the morning, ie 7am or whenever the location opens. Get there atleast 30 min. in advance and be ready to line up. It does not matter even if you have an advance reservation, you still have to line up.

...and last but not the least....just keep a cool head - these guys are so thick skined.... nothing...absolutely nothing can change their attitute.

hey quest, since you don't have much stuff to move you can get cargo van. last time when i helped my friend moving we rented cargo van for about 5-6 hours. n you won't believe me how much it cost to us. it was 45 bucks including everything. i think i rented it from discount car rental. driving van or truck is easy if you keep your cool n like sude said use your common sense.

about uhaul like sude said don't even ask about the customer service. i booked there truck last year. when i went to pick it up i had to wait for like 1 hour n then they said sorry the truck we have is broken and don't have another truck...

ohh n good luck in moving
