My parents are immigrating to Canada and I also have a brother who is coming with them as a dependant and in 2nd year of his BBA course (bachelor of business admn.)
He is little confused if he should complete his graduation from India or leave it just like that and finish his graduation from Canada. Would he be able to get credits for whatever he has done In India?
Any body with similar experience, please share. They would be coming to Vancouver.

I went through Simon Fraser and Thompson River University in B.C. and I note that Thompson is giving credit for two year courses from any North American University and they are facilitating a transfer of credits. It may be worth your while contacting them and finding out how they can help your brother if he joins them.
You will have to do your own inquiries there at your end since you have a very good idea as to what he has done and where he is heading educatioanlly.
Toll Free No: 1 800 663 9711
OR 250 852 7000
Other inquiries 800 663 1663
Currently there are 800 International students there from 45 countries and there are councillors available there to assist in choosing acareer. They also help in advance placement for students. It is a nice time of the year to contact and find when this service is made available for you and your brother. When they are ready they will call you for an interview. Leave your name and a phone number with them to get you. Make sure you have an answering machine to take their message, just in case....
Also use the library services to find other suitable Universities for a degree or a diploma course, just in case some one will provide him the required courses and Credit for his former education, but elsewhere in Canada.
Good Luck.
Hope this is of some help and you pursue it further.

Freddie.

Thankyou for your reply. I am looking for someone in similar situation.
It does not matter to me what course they were doing in India. My basic concern is whether he should complete his graduation in India or not.

I have contacted several universities e.g. in Toronto I know you have to get your educational evaluation done from third party and then where ever you want to take admission they do it separately but i was told in BC there is no such thing and whichever unversity my brother would choose to join they will do the evaluation and they do not need any other assessment. and it can only be done when he would meet the counsler personally.

Anybody came from India during graduation period?? Thanks again. Atleast you replied.

This is my opinion: Since he is going to settle down here in Canada and in the future might want to hang a 'shingle on the wall' he will do better having a Candian Degree. If they give your brother the credit that he deserves for the courses that he completed, the more the merrier. Otherwise the education that he has under the belt will certainly will come handy and will get him off the floor well and into higher grades and marks from the start and will come out with flying colours. So, you can suggest to him that he do the same here in Canada. I hope you get the the drift.
Please do consult a few vocational guidance councillors or the evaluating counsel for further assistance. You also know where they can be reached in each of the Universities.
Good Luck to both of you.

Freddie.

To the best of my knowledge, you will get very minimal credit, if any for courses taken in India. Keeping in mind that almost all degrees in Canada are 4 year degrees, coursework of 2 yrs or so from India will at best get you credit for a couple of courses here.

Personally I think it is best to finish the degree in India and then go for a Masters program here or to abandon the degree and start a fresh undergraduate degree here.

I am really confused now. I have informed my brother about this site and asked him to put his own questions may be that would help him understand what he is currently doing and what should he pursue for.

Anyone knows about any site where all international students chat? Any students from Bc university?

There are two main Universities in Vancouver: Simon Fraser University and University of British Columbia.

There is a college called "Kwantlen University College". They are authorized to grant undergraduate degrees. They offer a BBA program . I know for a fact that Kwantlen is facing a dearth of students right now and may welcome international students and be willing to assist in evaluation of your brother's courses.

Ensure that he brings with him copies of his marks AND...some syllabus or course outlines and details of the curriculum. This will enable the assessment of the equivelency of the courses.

The above link takes u to the list of colleges that offer this BBA. University Colleg eof the fraser valley in Abbotsford also offers it. Also BCIT (British Columbia institute of TEchnology). BCIt has a very strong reputation and I would recommend this school for its reputation.

However any colleges are fine.

let me know if you have any further questions .. u can msg me (I am a vocational counsellor btw)...
