Hey guys,
My husband and I just arrived! landed on Canada Day!
We sorted out all our paperwork, PR card, SIN, Health, drivers license, bank account etc and now just looking for decent jobs and doing touristy things.
We managed to get an apartment in brampton, near shoppers world, its not too bad, here until november, as thats when the lease finishes.
We've been married for just over a year, no kids yet! both in mid to late 20's. both gujjus, im from the U.K.
It would be great just to get in touch with similar people, to build a network, chat etc, even if its just online!
Is there anything clicking right now? i browsed a bit but didnt find much on here.
Age, race, gender, no bar!
U can PM me,
PS: by the way, do all apartment's here has electric cookers? my roti's are having a tough time :-( ..... see its just to answer silly things like this, that friends and networking is important ;-)
Welcome to Canada. I am not in Canada right now but we were living there in the same area you are living in right now. We have a house in this area, anyway regarding rotis go to any indian store and ask for "Roti Fluffer" you will get a "stand... made with wire" (Jali type) with handle all with same material for approx $3, you shift the half cooked roti on to that fluffer and it will Fluff like it does on Gas stoves.
When you own your home... you have an option to buy gas stove too. So future sure is bright. We use to shop at Gulmohar Indian grocery store @ Kennedy rd. they are the best among others.... rates are good and the best part is you do not have to buy the packets of dals and stuff. they keep loose dals. 2 log le liye jayada kahan lagti hai. anyway, email me at as _ ha @ h o t m a i l . com
somehow the personal email id disappers when we write in these msgs. just combine it together and you'll have my ID.
Welcome to Canada!
I, On behalf of Canadian Desi, wish you a warm welcome and pleasant stay in Canada.
Your location is a good one and along Hurontario south, there are a lot of companies, where you can try for job.
These are some of the cost cutting measures that you can do while in Canada
1. Primus Landline and Internet
2. Fido cellphone
3. Rogers TV
4. Second hand Car (get it Direct from some old ladies selling their cars. Works ou cheap and best)
5. Mortgage of a Town houses (free hold) or a House. Works best when you know the location that you will stay for 4 or 5 years. You can rent part of your house to help you to pay mortgage
Since I am located far away from your home and work on weekend, I will not be able to personally help you during weekends to do you shopping / showing you around, but then I am sure that like minded CD's will contact you to help you.
I once knew a UK desi lady who is now living aroudn your area but she is not communicating with me recently and hence I am not able to introduce you to her. She is from Karnataka.
Regarding you dilema about Roti, There was a thread discusing that on CD. You could use the search option to find it out.
Please stay away from people who want to lure you into Amway/Quixstar, BWW etc... Also be informed that there are some realtors (affiliated to MLS) who charge just 1% + free goodies for your real estate needs.
Also please know that 1-900 calls are paid calls and please donot call that number.
For any further queries, you are welcome to ask them and i am sure that some CD will give you an answer to it.

I landed recently and looking for advise on phone, internet, car insurance, good job search agents. Also for english. My english is bad and I want to improve my verbal communication and public speaking and writing skills. I have no idea how many desi's faced the same language problem. I studied all my schoolings in tamil and two degrees in English. May be forum members canhelp me to improve my english. English is not my first language and I have immigrated to the Country where English is the main language. Any help on english courses and teaching will be useful to me and many new immigants.
