Before the start of the series Kumble & Ponting had laid down some ground rules for the series. One of them was not to refer to third umpire in case of a dispute of a catch, but refer to the fielding captian if the player had taken the catch cleanly. That is why Benson asked Ponting.

ICC did more than what I imagined

- Steve Bucknor is out from the third Test at Perth
- Slapped level 3 charges against an offensive Bradd Hogg
- Appointed Ranjan Madugalle to oversee the functioning of match referee Mike Procter

3rd one is funny - a match referee will be under surveillance ... why not have Ranjan Madugalle himself as Match Referee?

This is just a BS action for the benefit of the press, the public and to placate the Indian team.
Removing Bucky from 3rd test has no real meaning.
The appropriate action would have been to suspend Bucky for 3 test matches.
Or to downgrade his ranking within ICC or some such thing.
This does nothing - it is merely a figurative action with no real effect.

Who gives a rat's s** for the stupid Brad Hogg.
That guy does not have abilities to play even first class cricket, let alone test matches.
My buddies from my gali-nukkad in Delhi used to bowl better spin that Brad Hogg.
The only reason he has been picked is because Australia is playing India.
Even if he does get banned, it will have zero effect on Australia.

He is probably a nice guy.
I'm actually old enough to remember seeing him play when he used to play for Sri Lanka :D
I wonder whether he has any authority or teeth in his current role.
I believe it defeats the purpose - they are having one ICC beaureacrat watch over another one.
Both of them are ICC officials.
I don't think Ranjan will have any authority to overrule or discipline any ICC match referee, without first consulting with his superiors, who will promptly ask him to shut up.

In conclusion, I think all of this is just a sham to get India to continue the tour.

Now Clive Lloyd is getting his foot in the mess too.

And look what the esteemed Malcom Speed is saying -

We can't have one set of rules for the India team and another set for everyone else

It's actually the other way round - they have one set of rules for Australia and another for India.

Lloyd's entire interview is posted here -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/7178190.stm

I wonder how he can go on saying such things without even considering what the Aussie team did on the field - all of a sudden Indian team is the villian of the piece.

Now we seem to be gettting the reasons for Mike Procter being so strict with Bhajji.

"Procter was under pressure after being ticked off....... "

The “incident” between the first (MCG) and second Tests, one learns, relates to Procter being ticked off by ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed for giving Yuvraj Singh a clean chit.

Yuvraj, who’d stood his ground in the first innings at the MCG, was charged with showing dissent but Procter accepted his plea that he’d shown “disappointment” and not dissent.

That didn’t amuse Speed.

Talking exclusively during the SCG Test, Speed said: “I’ve had a chat with Procter... I’m not in favour of redefining dissent. If a batsman waits at the crease after being given out then it’s dissent, not disappointment.”
