hey Ecom
Just one more quick one. I was going through the website of Rotman and in their FAQ Section, they have the question which is as follows:
IF I HAVE A THREE YEAR DEGREE, HOW CAN I BECOME ELIGIBLE?
You can become eligible by upgrading, or by taking four or five senior level (3rd or 4th year) courses with a B+ average from a recognized university.
http://www.topapply.com/cookie_enquiry/rotman/faqs.htm
Do you have any clue on what they are talking out here though they state that for INDIAN Bachelors they also need either a Master or a Post-Graduate Diploma from an AIU with first class standing.
Any idea on what they mean?
Dear All:
Read a lot from everyone who is advising our dear friend about the pros and cons of doing the MBA. Here are my two cents :
I am currently doing my EMBA from Richard Ivey and the process, procedure, rational and comparison are as follows :
Rational :
We can either keep crying about the great education that we already have from back home and do 5 figure jobs or take a hold of our lives and get a Canadian education and get a 6 figure salary. When it is citizenship time - I dont think I will be thinking twice about getting the Canadian passport - so why question the value of Canadian education.
Also this is an opportunity. If you have a good credit score - most banks will extend you a student line of credit (you only pay interest for as long as you are in school) at a preferential rate. The fees+ daily allowance per school day + text book fees is tax deductible (in case of someone earning $60000 pa here is what it would mean : Fees paid year one = 40000. other tax benefits = 2000 . Now total tax payable would be [60000-(40000+2000)] = 22000 new base for taxation. If yor school payout is more than the salary earned- then you dont pay taxes . (Please consult a tax accountant, but for me this is how it worked).
As for remuneration after MBA - most people I know (with Canadian or US MBA) are earning ateleast 120K a year. Good return on an investment of 85000.
Comparison :
Do an EMBA. It is not a watered down version as many believe (I need to put in atleast 6 hours of study a day). You are awarded the same MBA degree as regular course. It can take anywhere between 12 months to 18 months. You make a great network with high end class mates.
York, UFT,Richard Ivey. All are he same degree. and cost nearly the same. I chose Ivey as it is the oldest, has the max alumini inthe country, is case method based and focuses on Cross enterprise mgmt (that my friends is the new buzz word).
Procedure :
For most you will need to fulfill the following - Degree from your university, and/or Gmat score.
Finance: Once you are accepted - TD,BMO etc have special Student line of credit deals.
Process:
Once you are accpeted, remember its a lot of work. Have a chat with your family, friends. Working full time and then spending 6 hours a day studying leaves me no time for anything else. But it is a rewarding feeling.
Any more questions pm me.
Best of luck
PS: IN my class nearly 25% of the students are from South Asia, Most are already doing 6 figure jobs, have passports and have still decided to do the MBA. I wonder

I AM "CAN-INDIAN"
hi Ecom
I sent a mail across to Rotman School of Management and below is the reply that i received:
"""""Dear Manish,
You can upgrade your 3-year Bachelor’s Degree by taking four or five senior level courses in any Bachelor’s Program in any University in Canada. Senior level courses means that the course number is 300 or above. You should aim to get a minimum GPA of 75% in these courses. Essentially, these count as your fourth year. Please keep in mind that courses cannot be taken in a college, they must be at a recognized University. You must register as a non-degree or special student because you’re not completing a full Bachelor’s Degree.
In India, you can do 1 year of post-graduate certificate or a Master’s Degree to meet the minimum academic requirement for admission to the MBA Program.""""""""
So i have asked them if they have such courses in University of Toronto since Rotman is connected to it.
Hopefully i would get some response.
Had you checked on this with the university? I dont mean to question you but just was wondering if you had gone through it yourself and then giving me your advice as you already knew about this.
Thanks

Isn't it time for India to reform it's post secondary education system to be in sync with North America? Considering Indian students go for higher education in US, Canada, Aus, UK, etc. where they don't recognize 3 years Indian Bachelor's (BA, BCom, BSc) studies. Amidst all the globalization talks, they often neglect this area. Not everyone is B.E, BTech. who wants to study MBA here. I would rather pay for my additional 4th year in India than shed thousands of dollars to be eligible in Western universities' MBA program.
Time to re-think. Who else could envision it than India's own great reformer - Dr. Manmohan Singh.
I have completed my B.COM in India dna am currently working in Dubai with 2 years experience.
I wish to pursue my Masters in Canada (preferably a 1 year course) and settle down there.
Are there universities or colleges that accept 12+3 years of education.
How many years visa will I get upon completion of the course.
What will be the total fees for a 1 year course approximately.
Is it better to apply from Dubai or from India.
Kindly advice
