G2 is fine to travel. They do not check your licence status at the border. Only if you are caught by the NY or the NJ police will they checl your DL status (G2 or G).
Also when you travel to NJ, Try getting all the 3 routes ( Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, Rain bow Bridge and Peace bridge- Fort Erie). This is b'cos if there is a traffic jam in one, you can use one of the other two. Queenston - Lewiston always has traffic jams at the border crossings. Anyways, There is an electronic board which gives you the waiting time on all the three bridges well ahead , so that you can make a decision as to which one you should take.
Also No Delay at the crossings mean your wait time is 20 mins. or less. So donot take it literally.
Peace out

TK Thanks.
What do you mean by this? Any problem in having a G2 or just that you must stay within the limitations of G2, i.e. 0% blood alcohol and seat belts for all.
Thank you for the tips on border crossing.

Iceberg ...... i have also driven to US with a G2 ....and as TK said there is not problem. However same restrictions will apply as they do in Canada ..... regarding alcohol level etc. Actaully i have rented a car in Chicago and i had no problems with my G2 .... but it is better to check with the MTO on more information check http://www.nysdmv.com/tollfree.htm ...
Call up your insurance and check about your coverage in US. Also if you have children with you please check this http://www.nysdmv.com/dmvfaqs.htm ... scroll down to check
I finally travelled on this sector
While going I used Toronto to 1000 Islands route and took off from 401 near Gananoque on to 1000 islands scening parkway. It adds a few minutes to the drive and has two or three free lookout points to pause a little and grab a snack.
headed off to the international bridge, took the highway down to syracuse (almost no traffic at all) and then took toll road all the way to NY. traffic was moderate and so was the toll ($USD10?) Very good road. Not scening though except that last stretch.
On way back travelled thru Pennsylvania, and the route is thru mountains, but very scenic. No toll till syracuse. No gas station either !!! Does have a few rest stops with washrooms but no food joints or you have to exit. Very nice winding roads. much less toll as the other one.
I did 70-80 mph but have been told by many that in US they do fine you if you are above $73 mph.

We finally travelled on that route. We took I90 and I81 route. The I81 route was very beautiful. Roads were great except for a few stretches on I81 where some construction on going on. Thanks to all for the useful tips. I stayed at about 70 MPH and moved with the flow so had no problems. I guess G2 is fine to travel with.
Tolls were minimal - nothing compared to what we pay on the 407. I know 407 on within city limits while I90 in interstate.
