Hi All,
I became a member of this resourceful group today and I am glad that I did. I got so much of information from this group. I really appreciate all of you and the moderator for making this group such a wonderful group.
I am sure you would all help me as you have helped other. I am working on ERP (SAP) for HP, Bangalore India. I am in the process of obtaining Canadian Work Permit for 1 year through a consultancy firm by pay R.s 5,00,000/-
The consultant promises me that after 6 months of my stay in Canada I can apply and get PR. I was bit skeptical about this and was wondering whether this is possible. I.e. A person who is coming to Canada in WORK PERMIT visa can obtain PR after 6 Months of stay.
Hope you would be able to shed some light on this.
Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Warm Regards

you need to stay atleast one year legally in canada or USA to apply for PR from within Canada.
I am study permit and when i wanted to apply for PR i was told this by the immigration office in canada.
the website for applying from within canada is

Hi Raj,
Thanks for the info. The Consultancy is providing a work permit for a year, within 20 days. They are promising PR after 6 months of landing in Canada, if I do not receive the PR within 6 months to 1 year, they are promising they would renew my work permit for another 1 more year, this they will continue till I receive my PR.
So in a nutshell they are promising PR for Rs 5,00,000/-. I know this is pretty expensive when I could have applied for Immigration through an immigration agency or directly to High Commission but the entire process might take anywhere between 2 to 3 years and during that period there are possibilities that the Immigration laws of Canada might change.
By going through the consultancy, I can land in Canada in 20 days and can work legally till I get my PR. Please do rectify me if I have jotted down any wrong detail or info.
Warm Regards

Sameer,
Are they promising you a job along with the work-permit? Legally, that's how it should be, work-permits are issued against specific jobs. And if yes, how legit is this offer, what company will you be working with, what are the details of the position and what would be your pay?
How long has the consultancy firm been around? Are they willing to provide you with references to other people they've sent in a similar fashion?
There are the questions that I'd be asking them if I were you. If they're just getting you a work-visa and sending you here, after which you're supposed to "take care of things" yourself, you should be wary. 5 lac isn't a small sum, as you already know.
Btw, Ani70 is one of our members who's working as a SAP consultant, you could send him a personal message to get more SAP-specific info to gauge the SAP job market here.
Good luck.

Are you there?
Hi Desi,
Thanks for your info. Yes! This consultancy are providing work permit along with a software developer job offer. The company, which will be filing the papers with HRDC, is HPN. HPN Consulting group will interview us after we land there and if found suitable they will absorb us in there own software division or else they will help us getting job interviews with other concern, so basically the job is not guaranteed.
The younger brother of this HPN consulting group is running this consultancy firm in India; they have some 8 to 9 branches and are in this consultancy business for the past 8 years (That's what they said).
They had provided me few references of people whom they had sent to USA and Canada (Showed me Xerox copies of there VISA papers, Job Offer letter, and the Stamping of passport). They gave me few people Phone numbers and address. One person whose reference they had given (With whom I was interacting) left just few days ago to Canada.
They have now stopped sending people directly to USA cause of strict laws of USA; as such they are sending people to USA via Canada. They are providing post-landing service like assistance in getting
Social Security Number
Bank Account
Health & Medical Insurance
Job and
Driving License
Suppose if we don not get the PR within this 1 year, then the firm would apply on behalf of us to HRDC and extend our VISA by 1 more year and this they will continue till we get the PR.
Your input this regards is highly appreciated.
Warm Regards
Sameer
