... about meriting the punishment to the pocket - I think once you have applied as a visitor and the application has been sent back to you - next time shouldn't you apply under the same category?

Did you send them prepaid envelope addressed to you for sending your visa back to your address? If you did not, then that $20 could be extra postage charges they are asking.

Hi,

I did - the guy at Canada post suggested that to me.

Also that is how they have resent my application back to me [telling me to reapply].

So this time should I reapply with $123 or $143?

The official price on the website is quoted as $123?

Thanks

I am not sure why the consulate is asking for extra charges in your case if you are sending them prepaid envelopes. If you are not of Indian origin or you have US passport then they ask for extra charges.

You have to clarify that via email or phone (hard to get a hold of someone there, I know).

If you are of Indian origin and hold Canadian passport and are attaching prepaid envelope, you should be asked to pay only the rate displayed on their website.

Hi,

I am Indian origin but not a Canadian passport holder yet.

I have tried to check on the website if they apply extra charges to passport holders as you suggest but found nothing on the website.

I have even emailed but no reply yet and the phone keeps ringing or sometimes comes across as engaged.

The first time the consulate asked me to pay $123 or $306 as per the website (6 months and 5 years respectively); so I applied with $306 - which they returned back telling me it is approved (but to reapply with $143 (for 6 months) [as opposed to $123 on the website] ....

hence all this confusion.

Thanks to everybody for the feedback.

UPDATE:

I reapplied with $143 as they had requested; enclosed the previous application which their suggestion that I reapply with $143 for 6 months.

They have returned my passport with no visa and no explanation.

What should I do?
