Hi Everyone,

This is a good thread.

I had applied first time for a visitor's visa but had attached $200 instead of $306. So they returned back the application and told me to reapply with
(i) $306 (for 5 years) or
(ii) $123 (for 6 months)

Second time, I applied with $306 for a 5 years visitors visa. This time they returned it back telling me to reapply

(i) $326 (for 5 years) or
(ii) $143 (for 6 months)

So now I am confused. Where is this $20 charge been added from because their website says $123 or $306 respectively.

I don't want to reapply third time - only to be asked to reapply again.

Can anybody suggest something?

Thanks

Wow....I didn't realize now they have a tourist and a visitor category...nice scam as they can now charge double to visit relatives which most of them do, hmmm...

So, what happens if someone happens to tour on a $62 visa and stumble upon the relative's home....:)

Anyway, now I understand the confusion. And to the poster above, I have no idea on the extra $20 other than some form of shipping charge?????

Hi Friends,
I obtained my visa yesterday, no hasseles . Had mailed as required on their site with return post paid express mail Canada post envelopes included in it with a MO obtained from "Postoff " located in shoppers drug mart.
Cdn 62/ for each adult individual , and individual return pre paid canada post envelopes.
They gave 6 months visa, included in the app was the address of my sis in Bombay,
Although I am staying at my own house in mumbai.

It is so odd to discuss for visa of the same place we were born and brought up.

Reproducing here part of their web site for comparing the visa fees:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VISA TYPES & FEE SCHEDULES FOR CANADIAN NATIONALS WEF 1st JULY 2008

Category Fees in Canadian Dollars

1. TOURIST VISA valid up to six months - 62 (See below for Visitor
Visa fees)
2. TOURIST VISA valid up to one year - 100 (See below for Visitor Visa fees)
3. TOURIST VISA valid up to five years - 200 (See below for Visitor Visa fees)

_______________________________

7. VISITOR – VISITING RELATIVE VISA

Up to 6 months 123
Up to 1 year 183
Up to 5 years 306

---------------------------------------------------

The first category is for TOURING. (1, 2, 3, )

The second category is VISITING.

Now we need to define the categories before we decide to apply. I am lost as much as all of us, when we decide to cut corners, we have to decide the category that we need to use. I think the crux of the matter lies in the Application and in line (17*)

Also note that the IN INDIA section if you are a tourist, need not fill the columns or the lines there in.
{IN INDIA (Not required in cases of Tourist/Transit Visas)}

Since you are touring, please keep all of the ticket stubs and meal expenses or purchase receipts to prove that you are not stationery in one town, Just in case, they want to cancel the Visa as per line 21.

I don't see any reason to pay the higher fees, for a short trip to India, unless the individual desires to declare that they are 'vising relatives' and merit the punishment they are imposing in our pockets.

The choice is yours.

Freddie.

Incidentally I find that these Visa Fees are as per the reciprocal agreement that the Individual Governments have between themselves. You charge us X number of dollars to visit our country and hence we will charge the same to visitors from your country. ( Tit for ti(a)t) , and we are between the two t-ts. Enjoy it.
And you want to know some thing? Now they want $20 for the references. (Verify the two references that you provide in your application) Please check.

I had been once quoted $123 and second time $143 - the links don't seem to mention any reference check for visitors visa.

tried calling the embassy on the phone lines but apparently nobody in the embassy picks up the phone?

... about meriting the punishment to the pocket - I think once you have applied as a visitor and the application has been sent back to you - next time shouldn't you apply under the same category?
