Want to upgrade from Viewsat Ultra to something for my new HDTV .Any suggestions which is good HD Box to replace Viewsat. Indian channels are beamed in HD or not ?
Indian channels are not beemed in HD. They will be just digital.
Also when I was trying to switch to Satellite, the guy who i spoke to said that getting the card registered for the reveiver from then Internet for a HD Box is not easy. He did not recomend me a HD Version of the box since not many people use it.
Will plasma TV (something like Pioneer Kuro) be a better option for Indian channels? I am being told by sales agents that LCD is better.
Thanks
MS
I hope everyone who buys a HDTV knows that you will need a HD Box for your reception to be at the minimal acceptable level. Normal Digital Boxes will not work. The Non HD Channels with a Digital Box on a HD TV will be screwed up. Do not accept what the sales guy says. I have personal experience.
I bought a HDTV tv and got normal Digital Box. The Picture on the non HD Channles were messed up. Called the cable guy he could not figure out what was wrong. Then called the TV Technician, thinking that something is wrong with the TV. The moment he saw the Digital box he told me that it will not work and there was nothing wrong with the TV. He suggested me to take the HD Box on a trial and see if it works. I did the same. The Picture is perfect even for Non HD Channels which is not possible with a normal Digital Box.
Thanks akscanada.
akscanada, when you got the hdbox did you get the hdmi cable? how many do you need(just for watching tv), do we need to buy it
My box is from Rogers. They will not provide you an HDMI Cable becuase they are very expensive in Canada.
You need atleast 1 to connect your HD Box to the TV. RGB Cable will not give you good quality. Also if you are connecting a HD DVD Player then you need 2.
This is what 1 did.
I bought a HDMI Switch Box. I plug in my Rogers HD Box and DVD Box to the inpit of the HDMI Switch Box. 2 Cables for this. Then connect the Output of the HDMI Switch box to the Input of the Television. 1 Cable for that.
I bought the box and cables all from this company in the states.
You cannot beat the price. There was a little bit of customs duty but still it was way cheaper than what we get in Canada.

The benefit of using a HDMI Swtich Box is that you do not have to swtich the Input channels on your TV rather do it on the box.
Choice is yours. If you do not use the HDMI Swtich Box then you need 2 cables only. 1 for Rogers Box and 1 for DVD Player.
Hope that helps.
