Hi,
This is regarding relocating to Edmonton, Calgary.
Its going to be three years since we have been in Canada. We have been in Toronto so far. I am on a contract now, which might get extended. Now I have a better offer from Edmonton. We don't know whether to relocate or not. Here are some of the things that we are worried about.
(1)What about the climate there ? Is that very bad when compared with Toronto ? How long is the winter season ?
(2)About relocation. Doesn't look like we can drive taking the house hold things ?
What are the options available ?
What are all the services for taking our house hold things, electrics goods, computer and related systems.
What about taking our house hold things through train ?
What are all the rates ? Any insurance for damage ?
Any relocation services that you would suggest ?
(3) Compared to Toronto, what about the living expenses in Edmonton.
Of course schooling, medical fascilities are also top priorities.
Is there any resources that we should go through please let us know.
Any inputs from people who relocated would be very helpful.
With Regards
AA
I travel to Edmonton on bussiness regularly.
1- Weather is Cold for 8-9 month but you can manage.
2-Train is very costly for taking your Household goods. Better to send them by Truck.
3- Edmonton is expensive place in comparision to Toronto.

Driller the thriller
I moved to Calgary from Toronto last year. Calgary winter is relatively mild compared to Edmonton due to mountains but I find it is vey cold compared to Toronto.
I find cost of living is more expensive especially the housing. You can check through the listings under MLS.
I paid $1200 for shipping car through Hansen. They only accept empty car, no items in it. Other items I just sold them in Toronto instead of shipping. If you prefer, you can drive to Edmonton.
I would say if you are getting a very good deal including relocation costs and a permanent job, it is worth the move but it is your decision.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Looks like we won't have health coverage for the first three months.
Should we inform the local Toronto hospital and ask them to send all treatment history ( including that of kids ) to Edmonton ?
If there any recommendations on moving services ?
With Regards
