Hi,
I had taken the insurance thru CAA for my parents. After initial $50 deductible they had covered medical expenses related to regular fever. Fortunaltey did not have to go for any other major medical visit. But their policy covers upto $50K (I think) for around $900 for 5 months for age above 65. Did get the refund for whatever was claimed. Not much of a hassle. (Probably because the claim was under $300). You can call them I think you do not need to be CAA member as well.

Hi CD's
We(2 Adults and 1 1/2 yr old son) are planning to migrate to Canada this July and so needed some info about insurance which we will need till our health cards are processed.
Is it better to take it in Canada or in Dubai(where we are at present) or in India? We are visitng India next month so can process it there too.
Would appreciate some info on the insurance company and related details. Also if someone has taken insurance in Dubai pls advice.
Thanks in advance
Jigcy
Hello Pramesh,
You can go online for the following companies
a. ICICI lombard
b. Bajaj Alliance.
c. Reliance Insurance
d. Tata AIG
e. HDFC Travel insurance
and a link for all insurance cos in India
http://www.iloveindia.com/finance/insurance/companies/index.html
So go online , check online quotes and then based on what you find ask your inlaws to call agents of these companies and you may get further discounts.
Regarding CAA which was mentioned earlier. the premium for a $ 50 K converage is $ 2134 for 180 days for a $ 50 K coverage. ( Deductable is $ 50) for both my parents ( Note rate quoted is per person per day)
http://www.caasco.com/insurance/documents/emti-can-visit-policy-guide.pdf
For ICICI i have a quote of $ 400 for 180 days for both my parents
There would be some differences in coverage etc. But the difference in premium is very high.
So we have all the information, do your research and take the policy.
All i can say is that now with big TPA's working for indian companies the claim process is somoother than earlier.
Regards,
RJ
Thanks RJ for that info. will look into this further.
Have you or anyone else on this forum looked at this?

One get quotes of different companies including 21st century-Manulife which does cover preexisting plus the premiums seems lower than CAA.
How would the reimbursement work for Indian companies versus Canadian as what doctor's office expects one to pay upfront and then get the money from whichever insurance company it is.
Regarding choices of visitors insurance, you can get a comparable quote from multiple insurance companies all at the same time here: http://www.bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/travel-insurance-for-canadians-visitors-to-canada-seniors-and-students
