OK,
I went to indian consulate today in eglinton in toronto. There was another guy in the same situation like me (an indian muslim), the only difference is he applied on may 7, 2009, his OCI is granted online on june sometimes, but nothing after that.
The lady at the consulate said that i need to wait till the online status says the documents arrived at toronto. She also said that iam above the normal timeline and she asked me to e-mail them as i said that i did not get any information over the phone. I asked her how long more it will take for me , as i might leave the country , she said , she does not know. I asked whether its possible for me to get OCI stamp at another country, she said "no" and i need to get only from toronto.
But talking with the other guy who was also in the same situation as me, there are some common things for both of us.
1. Both of us have family, but we just only applied alone ( as my wife is not canadian citizen).
2. For some reason it takes longer time for indian muslims (which iam not and the other guy is ) and there is some screw up in the whole process because of that.
3. The process is delayed only from indian side and not toronto (the consulate lady told me this).
So overall very disappointed with the whole thing. Thats the update guys.Dont know what to do now.

Applying alone or with family should not have any effect on the timeline process. I applied alone back in April and got my OCI within a month.

I would suggest that if you need to travel to India soon, then get a visa. If not, then your only option is to wait out the process.

His situation may be different than yours...he is merried but applied alone

and how come you got OCI so quick?:) ...consulate website also promises to provide oci in 1 month..but it seems not real.. as per all above cases..it is taking 4 months :(

any other CD got his OCI in 1 or 2 months ?

does it make any difference..whether you applied from toronto or vancouver.?
in my case..i sent my application to vancouver consulate

I got it in 8 weeks (I was told at the time of applying that I will get it in 8 weeks) but it was one year ago.. Until now I have good experience with Vancouver consulate.

Mr. Gupta, FYI - I am married too and yes I got it within exactly one month (whether you believe it or not) because as you said every case is different. I applied back in April when there was no VFS.

Only Indian authorities can advise you whether timelines are different if you apply from Toronto or Vancouver.

1. Possibly because, more people have started applying, hence the backlog. For example, I never wanted to apply for OCI in the past years. Recently, I had/have a job offer in India, hence had a need to apply (although I am not taking up on that offer). I am one of those "late adopters" of OCI, as the marketing folks would say.

2. VFS came into existence to "improve the overall efficiency" and instead slowed the process down, since everything now has more travel time from you to VFS to CGI, back to VFS and to you. Not to mention frequent disconnects between what CGI does and what VFS does.

I do know a lot of people who received OCI in about a month and this was until first half of this year.

I think the process was much much faster without VFS. I believe it would take less time if they did not insist on keeping original documents.

My passport has come back to VFS with OCI card and stamp after exactly 7 business days as VFS stated. I now have to find time to pick them up.

In my case, the processing time was from June 5 to Sep 16, 2009 - close to 3.5 months.
