Has anyone been to adirondacks park?
If yes can you briefly describe how is the park and what are the main attractions in the region?
Also any chance of finding desi food?
Yes, I was ther last summer (2008). Stayed at a cottage near Tupper Lake for 3 nights and went around. We got a deal from http://iloveny.com/home.aspx stay 2 nites get the 3rd free. Visited the following:
1. Train ride -> http://uhrr.com/index.asp?lg=1&w=pages&r=-1&pid=0
2. High Falls Gorge -> http://www.highfallsgorge.com/
3. Around Lake Placid, we took the local shuttle bus. It's free (just tip the driver), and took a tour of the entire town
4. Natural Stone Bridge & Caves -> http://www.stonebridgeandcaves.com/
Later we moved to Old Forge for 2 nights and visited the Enchanted Forest - Water Safari -> http://watersafari.com/ They have a Stay and Play package deal with a hotel right across the street. We really loved this, especially staying right across.
If you search the web, you'll find discount coupons for some attractions. We wanted to do a lot more, but time was short, but hey, it gives us a reason to visit the place again.
As regards desi food, in the 5 days, we didn't find any desi restaurants, neither did we go especially looking for one. For breakfast and dinner we cooked at the cottage (ready to eat packs). For lunch we carried food from home and eat outside. As an FYI we're veggies so trying to eat outside was not the best where choices were very limited. We didn't carry fresh fruits and veggies from Canada for fear of being stopped at the border. On the way we stopped at a Walmart and grocery store, which was a rip-off, but hey we didn't have any choices.
I found gas cheaper in the mountains, which was very surprising.
Another thing I found is that there were a lot of cops, ticketing for speeding, so watch your speed. Try not to drive after dark, the roads are very winding and there are animals, especially deers around.

Thanks a lot sudesingh for the detailed information.
It does look like a nice area to explore, wonder why it is not popular with Torontonians although it is the nearest mountainous region to the GTA
There is a bangladeshi restaurant in Lake George Area serving "deshi" food which can be helpful for veggies.
I hope to see some wildlife, stars and nice mountain paths.
