Hi All Sr Desis,
I need advise from all senior desis, on the places which are located on convinent\well connected\ locations where new immigrants can try & locate themselves , routes on which more options are available to commute by public transport system.
I am sure there could be many routes , I am more interested where rents could be low, shopping, in close proximity.
Every one please guide.
When we look at the map of GTA, there are 5 main divisions,
TORONTO,YORK REGION, DURHAM REGION on east,
PEEL REGION, HALTON REGION on the west,
Out of these regions which can be more suitable for new immigrants, with respect to parameters of wide choice of connectivity, more frequent services (public transport system), low rentals, shopping of essentials nearby.

This is a very difficult yet easy choice ......
you have to figure a few things out before anyone can answer ....
- Kids ?????
- Your budget for the first 6 months ????
- your frofession that you'd eventually like to get into ??????
- Would you'd be more confortable to live among kikewise immigrants or not ?????
- in and around Toronto there are pockets of immigrant communities

Keep in mind you'd have to go thru the "meat grinder" for the first 6 months before you would be able to make a decent assessment. Toronto is expensive .. yet a whole lot more oppurtunities, however the cost living is a bit higher than the outskirts.

Statisticaly you'd end up living permanently in the city were you landed as an immigrant.

Hi Peacock1,

From your question it appears that you have decided on Toronto. In that case accept welcome from a 905er. Residents from the core of GTA are known as 416ers and those from suburban areas are called 905ers.

You would find desis everywhere in GTA. But there are some pockets, mostly in 905 area, where they are now dominating economically and politically. In the west and north of GTA - Mississauga, Brampton, part of Oakville, north Etobicoke, and north of North York - north Indians and Pakistanis are the dominant species of desis. In the eastern part of GTA - Scarborough and Markhan - Tamils and Sri Lankans call the shots.

As far as rent is concerned it is slightly more in 416 area but if you get job in the same area the lower cost of travel would compensate the extra dollars you may spend on rent. As far as connectivity is concerned, all areas of GTA are more or less well-connected by public transport. Shopping centres too are conveniently located throughout GTA. If you buy a car, as I am sure you would, the factors of connectivity and shopping areas would become less important. The only important factor would be job. Once you have it everything else would pale in comparison.

Statistically more new desis land in Mississauga than in any other municpality in GTA probably because of the presence of International Airport. After they find their footing then they move on to other locations in GTA.

I hope the above answers most of your concerns.

Hi Yours truly,
Yoy've guessed right, I intend to land in TO, u have told 416 ers is costly , what is the rent there? and what areas are covered in that ?
What areas are covered in 905, and what are rents in this areas?
As regards job, it ultimately depends on where I get in to , and that is the uncertain element in the settlement plan.
As regards my family details, We are 5, (3 teenaged daughters), they are to be admitted to school\college,
Region wise can you tell more specifically which areas to look for , and rent in those areas.

They don't want non-French speakers because they also vote against separation.

Also Ottawa is now becoming a French heartland...best avoid it unless they are paying you big bucks.
