Just watched on CP 24 about this guy who bought hardwood flooring from a famous Desi owned \"Brampton\" based flooring shop.
He bought hardwood for self installation in his home from this famous store. He found that the boxes were marked 19 SQFT per BOX and based is calculation/ purchase/budget on this value.
He then started installing and found that he had to use 2 to 3 boxes more per room than he had calculated. He thought that he had done wrong measurement first then he thought his wastage was high.
The typical value for a good installer is around 5 to 6 %.
Then when he randomly opened a box and installed the boards on the floor and measured the area he found the value was 16 SQFT. He then went about measuring the area by randomly opening boxes and it ranged from 15.5 SQFT to 17SQFT and NOT the marked 19SQFT.
He then realized that he had spend 650 buckaroos more to complete the job than anticipated. After complaining through the CP 24 channel the store has offered to give him more boxes for free to complete the job. They also said that this has never happened to them in the last 30 years of business.
My friend who is a mechanical engineer got his Condo carpet replaced with hardwood floors after installing subfloor had the similar experience. He had measured the place and bought the hardwood based on his calculations after allowing 10% wastage. But the contractor kept sending him back for more boxes.
As he had to finish the job he bought the boxes and finished the job. It never occured to him there was \"SOMETHING FISHY\" going on. When he later went to the same shop he found the contractor happily joking with the staff of the same store.
When the material is short the contractor doesnot complain and may be he could be adequately compensated by any store?.
The end loser is the consumer.
