Hi guys.. once again.....i am back with more queries and this time on health.

1) Can we register to a doctor even we dont have OHIP ( for OHIP what document is mendatory , as i have got SIN number till now and a bank letter and one mobile phone ) are these enough to apply for ohip.

2) Where we can go for emergency treatment and what is the procedure.

3) Do we need to carry our landing paper or passport all the time while taking a around.

4) Which place is best to buy.. home stuff ( RUG , TOWELL , MAT etc. ), and for ATTA DAL RICE etc....

thanks in advance...

For registering with OHIP you need some documentary proof that you are staying in Ontario. Normally they accept driving licence, bank statement etc.

It is better to take at least a copy of your landing paper and relevant pages of your passport because that is the mostly accepted identification document for newcomers (in the absence of PR card and driving licence). I carry the original though it is a bit risky. Once you get a driving licence you can use that as an ID.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

No you cannot register at any Dr without a OHIP card. For an OHIP card, you need very specific documentation. Check this link for further details http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/ohip/default.aspx

The waiting period for OHIP is 90 days. Even if you apply now, you won't get your card until around the end of 90 days.

You can go to any hospital or walk-in clinic for emergency treatment. If you do not have an OHIP card, you'd have to pay the services.

No. It's better to keep then safely at home.

For Indian groceries, go to any Indian grocery store. You can also buy some stuff at the local FoodBasics, Price Chopper or No Frills.

Other household stuff, try Sears or Bay for brandname & good quality stuff. You could also try Wal-mart or Zeller, but the quality is questionable (and debatable ;) )

I think registering with a family physician should not be a problem. They will charge you for the visit which will be paid by you or by your insurance company. There are companies like coverme.com that can provide insurance until your health card kicks in.

Hi all .. thanks for the information on OHIP you guys have given and the web links too.

So it works like this that even we register after coming to canada *( say after 20 days ) * so the time take is from the date of landing or date of Application for OHIP.

Yes ! They count the day u entered in Ontario

u can finish other stuff first then go for OHIP - so even if u apply late then should not be a problem since they count 90- days from the day you entered in Ontario.

they might ask for landing paper... But they will sure ask for residential adress - they dont consider lease as proof. .. Bnk statment ( actual bank statment - not a letter from bank) , driving licence ( if u have one),, phone utility bills.

Go with all documetns : passport, landing paper and proof of residence.

NOTE: I HAVE JUST APPLIED, I HAD TO WAIT FOR MONTH BEFORE I GET MY BANK STATMENT WITH CURRENT ADRESS.

If you have rented a home, the original of the lease agreement is enough. You don't need bank statement. I did with only the lease agreement, make sure that you have names of all your family members entered in the lease agreement.
