Hi
My wife will be here and we are expecting our new baby very soon. I understand OHIP does not cover until 90 days from the date of landing, but there should be some way out?
I also know private insurance does not cover any cost against pregnancy? . But if I have to pay for the pregnancy that’s gona be lot of money. Where can I approach to get financial assistance . Has any one been in this situation? Kindly share your experience –
It is very expensive to do delievery in US/Canada without proper insurance , why don't you go back to your home country and have this baby delievered and then sponsor it . The expenses are about 12-15 K for having a delievery without insurance ..
Take care

There is another way out for you.
Land in Saskachewan or other provinces which offer medical coverage immediately on landing.
A friend was ain a similar situation and went to sasketchwan for a few months for delivery , he even did some part time work in a supemarket and later came back.intrestingly he likes the place so much that wants to go back if here gets a suitable job.
Chgeck with the provinces and what health benefits you can get there before going there .
I'd suggest go to the web sites of the health dept of each province and speak to someone in the health dept to be sure.
Good luck with the baby.

What can be imagined, can be achieved.
I hope you live in Toronto. There are many community centers providing services before OHIP card.
One is Westhill community center at Lawrence/Kingston. You can also visit any clinic nearby and ask them for such community centers providing services.
They might charge some money, but it will not be that expensive as Smiley answered. It might be within 2K range.

12-15 K is an appx for having a child in LA area (US) and after employer insurance it comes to 2K - 3K after insurance .
Thought canada would have the similar expenses....

No - there are volunteer organizations providing such services. Recently a friend of mine's sister came from India with similar situation and they got such services.

Garvo , Many thanks for your reply . I did contact the local community health centre. And what I understand is that they ask me to pay some money since my wife is not eligible for OHIP for 90 days.
In a situation where some one can’t meet part payment ‘what would they do’? I have called a lot people and I understand that there are programs for new immigrant where 100% medical are taken care, but I do not have any concrete information
It seem that agencies keep this programs very discreet!! Could you or any one give me exact details as how to go about this?
Many thanks
