Hi CDs
I am trying to find out if anyone has any first hand knowledge of OHIP document requirement for residency proof when applying for OHIP card for the first time. I need it for my mother. She is new immigrant and does not have any utility bills etc. I opened an account for her last month, bank statement did not arrive since the bank made a mistake in our address so used 30 instead of 31 in street address. I got it corrected but now have to wait for 2 more weeks to get another statement. Her visitor insurance is expiring today and 3 months will be up tomorrow. Need your advice on what document should I use to apply for ohip for residency proof.
I do have her visa card statement which came correctly to my home address, Would that work?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hello RBO
Thanks for the reply and information. Yes, on the landing paper, she has the same address as our home address.
From my past experience, when I moved here from B.C., they would not accept anything that is not in the List 2 for proof of residency.
If it has worked for you then I will surely try it. I will take the landing paper and credit card statement this weekend.

Service Ontario will not accept anything other that what's on List 2 for Proof of Residence. You'll just have to wait till you get your next bank statement. Once the waiting period is over, OHIP coverage becomes effective immediately upon applying. They issue a temporary card/slip which can be used to avail health services.
Try with the credit card statement, that may work.

Update on this. Went to Service Ontario office. They would not take credit card statement alone. I had made a lease agreement showing my mother as my renter. That was not acceptable only because I had drawn a month to month lease so it did not show intent to stay permanent. However, the lease agreement + credit card statement was enough to show proof of Ontario residence. Also I showed the bank statement printed from the Bank teller which showed her name and wrong home number. That helped as well. Task is completed. Thanks for your help, CDs.
