Hi
My educational background is BA with some software certificate courses that I did from India. I also have about 5 yrs work exp as a tech support in Accenture (India). Since I have some interest in content management, I was wondering if doing a course in Documentum will help me in getting a job, or as one of my friend suggested, to go in for training as a Business Analyst, and then work as a BA with a bodyshop in US. (I am a Canadian citizen)
What are the job prospects for Documentum or a BA? With my educational background (I am not a hard core techie), which one would be easier to grasp?
I also saw lots of ads. in sulekha.com regarding training and guaranteed job placements, primarily in the US. Can someone provide feedback regarding the authenticity of these trg. institutes? What’s the catch here, am I missing something?

hello my frd...the job market is very tough now...I have myself done a course in BA and still looking for jobs...the training Institutes in the US just rob you of your money and never fulfill their promise of giving you jobs...in the BA field it helps if you have some domain knowledge like banking, insurance, health..etc., I am not sure of documentation prospects but generally in IT whatever field you are, if you dont have the experience they are looking for, you may never hear back from them
But some of the ads. says that they train for free, and then assist in placements, what's the catch?
Anyone here who has gone thorugh any of these institutes for jobs in US?

Have you ever considered Software Quality Assurance or Software Testing field? You would be spending the same amount on training as BA or Documentum, but it's relatively easier to get a foothold in Testing field. It's neither considered in programming, nor a hard core tech. field.
However, in these tough times I am dead against harping on any training/course. If you're earning then keep saving for the next few months/year and then opt for any course if situation improves.
I would go for Software Testing if I were in your shoes by weighing in all my options. This is the only field worth promising in IT.
People who live in GTA might further assist you with the institutions that impart training in QA.

No, I have not considered testing/QA as a profession, most probably because I dont have any previous exp in that area.
Is it fairly easy to get a break in this area as a new comer?
Since I have some exp in handling content for one of the big 5 consulting firms, one of my friend suggested to go in a for a formal trg in Instructional Design/Technical Communications. She claims that jobs are easy to get, and maybe I can start-up a fiem of my own.
Any comments?

Yes, it's relatively easy to get a break in QA area. Of-course you need to also work hard getting acquainted with the concepts thoroughly. However, as I mentioned earlier, it's not that an issue as compared to if you have to start learning programming.
Content Management is also a good field, and relatively easy to get it. I have seen content, instructional designers, technical writers working in diverse functional areas in the organization, such as Marketing, HR, Systems, etc. So the target market is not just limited to Information Technology.
I have an experience in both and can say that both the fields (QA and CM) are relatively easier than say, Programming. The pay is not that bad either.
I would advise you to take a plunge whichever field you have experience in. Just take the courses, get to know about your product well, and above all else work on the behavioral part of the interview more seriously. The latter is most important to get a job in your destined field.
