Looking for an inexpensive vacuum cleaner (I find Dyson expensive )and range hood that sucks maximum odour.
Also could you share how you guys eliminate cooking odour as every one might have different ways.

We have always used standard hoodfans but they are very noisy and dont work well. We then purchased a Sakura Hood fan (it was pricey..over $600) but it is amazing. It sucks up the odours and smoke really fast and it has neat features like autosensors to determine how much speed of the fan is required on its own. It was worth the price.

The best place to get comparative information on such questions is to read the Consumer Reports of Canada. This is a non profit organization based out of USA and they also have a Canadian segment.

Their only job is to compare products and rate them on standard conditions and also compare prices and give you BUY recommendations.

This book is available in your local WalMart in the books section for 7 bucks and is available monthly.

Luckily for you, I have the March 2010 issue handy and I can give you the top three picks for the Vacuum Cleaner recommendation for uprights which do well on carpet and easier to store and the prices here are MRSP and the real price in the shop will be much lower:

1.Kenmore Progressive 35922/23 $350
2.Kenmore Progressive 36932 $280
3.Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 $170

Eventhough there are many Dyson products tested none of them are recommended.

CR Best Buy:

Canister type recommendations are:

1.Kenmore Progressive 27514 $300
2.Hoover Wind Tunnel S3670 $300

These are better with tools and are more stable on stairs.

CR Best Buy:

Full Sized Carpet Cleaning Machines:

1.Hoover Dual V steam Vac All Terrain w/spin Scrub F7452-900 $270

In regards to the Range Hood there are many options. The current hot one is that it has a Microwave Oven also attached to it.

Hence you do not need a stand alone microwave oven. There are various types which include ones which have a filter which adsorbs the oil used in the various Desi cooking, while there are ones which removes the smell with activated Charcoal from the smoke.

Many a times if this is a Condo and you are letting your exhaust into the common air vent it will lead to air flow imbalance and many a time if you use a powerful hood it will sucking in your neighbours exhaust than putting yours out.

You should find the size of the room and buy a machine based on the SQ FT of suction you are trying to perform. Many a times if you use a powerful machine and you have gas based heating it will be pumping the AC from the other room and hence not heating your vessels adequately.

I strongly suggest that you should do some research with consumer reports of former months to arrive at a suitable product.

Best of LUck.
