Hi Fellow cds,

this may have been discussed a hundred times. but still no clearcut solution?
or am i wrong?

we have to give an address at the airport at the time of first landing for the PR cards to be deliverd.

do all of them have adddresses to give ?

if not, what do the others do ?

most ppl give their friends' address ?

what if some dont have any freinds, contacts ??

or what if some who have friends but they feel this is a help but an illega thing to do - i e to give the address but the person does not stay there. ( this is what i have heard recently)

so if it is illegal but address has to be given,

what is the way out ????

some suggested : UPS stores mail box address.

is it a possibility ??

if yes . then is this finally the most sought after solution.

my appeal to all those cds who have been selflessly helping out newcomers again and again, to please come out with their opinions.

thnx
chai garam

Imagine immigrating to a New Country where you know no one and have no friends and don't know have a clue how to go about it. It gets tougher if you do not know the language and also do not have no means of communicating with anyone. I know, tears were running down my eyes, when I saw the FOUR RCMP officers Tasered a new Immigrant inside of the arrival area in Vancouver airport.

Why couldn't they get a translator, if they knew his name and Nationality?

Buddy, you have no problems if you can speak the language and can go about doing your thing here in Canada. You will get far and you will go a long way and will be successful too.

At the P.O.E. They do not accept a Post Box Number from any one. They want a POSTAL ADDRESS with a Postal Code to go with it. If you do not have one, find one after you settle down and tell them you will post it on their website for them . Find out how. OR get the address to which to write to, when you land there. THEN, when you get one, by hook or crook, send it by post to them with all of the required details.

Most of the Immigrants who land and go back, ask a friend or the Guest house OWNER to look after this for them. Pay what ever he/she asks, unless some one posts here the normal fee or charges. Provide him/her with a letter of authority to collect it on your behalf from the postal people. Ask them to open the letter and see the PR Cards, then, you can get a FEDEX envelope with a COLLECT way bill and stick it to the envelope and if you have a picture of yours and the family put one inside the envelope and tell him/her when they receive ALL of the PR cards that resemble the picture in the envelope, send it to them and you pay for it when it arrives there. If you do not want them to open it, tell that too. Just mail it to you to a location where you are returning to. Hope he does it for you, as agreed.

If you are returning by the next flight, TOUGH LUCK, if you can't accomplish all of these things in a short span of time. When ever you decide to return to Canada for good, apply for a Travel Permit, get it for your next travels and then go through the same process all over again.

Yes FEDEX Charges about $70 Canadian as charges for their couriering it to you. There are others who do it cheaper than that too $30.00 or there about. Look for them and then find the same by calling them.

Here is FEDEX : http://fedex.com/ca_english/contactus/

Dear Freddie,

You continue to amaze me.

there are probably other posts that throw little light on this topic. but somehow i was unsucessful in finding that.

this is quite an info. and hopefully help a lot of others have the same problem. they must have.

pl accept my sincere appreciation.

i guess i hv to try and see the mammoth time, effort and sacrifice ( u may be having to sacrify quite a few things , i am sure) that goes behind these detailed replies.

T H A N K Y O U .

Hi Freddie,

just a clarification :

1) they claim that ups mailbox is not just a mail box number but a complete real address or something of that effect . your views ?

2) Is is really illegal or something like that if a friend wants to help you to use his address?

thanks.

It is good to find out if they will accept UPS's store front address. Also have an alternate for that mailing address if it fails. In short have another address to provide them with when you try your first.

You should remember this, that a Power of Attorney has to be given to them for the collection of your mail and you must make the arrangements to forward it to you, where ever you are. If it suits you, then go for it.

Some one like Mail Boxes etc., calls your mail box a "SUITE" and they charge a lot for that service. It will cost you additional service charges for the mail forwarding.
Each one call it what ever makes some sense, and it is permitted by the mailing system. But to open one, you will have to have a few Identity Cards and a Bank Account etc., See what it is that they need to get you started and for you to have one of those. It is mainly for the locals here and for business people. If you are at that level, then go for it.

Any one can do the helping and forward the cards to you. It is not illegal. So, if you have a friend or some one one to help you, avail it. Let them do it for you. But make plans for all of these and prepare yourself before you land here.

Freddie.
