I am not sure why everyone thinks Health care is free we pay for it thru our Taxes and it is kind of insurance we buy. The only thing is quality of this insurance company services is really bad.

After 8 yrs of trying to find even a $20 per hr job - and failing to do so I am back in India as head of a hospital where the care is far superior to any Canadian hospital. You can see a specialist / get a CT scan and even get operated in less than one hr and the bill - dont laugh, max $ 4,500.00 if you have had a neuro operation. Aur pyar hi pyar be-shamaar!
Dont be glorified slaves my fellow countrymen.
Can you point out how your hospital is better than any Canadian hospital?
We in Canada can have that operation done for almost free of charge. And how many people in India have a disposable income to pay for that kind of surgery?
I can understand your frustration, but everybody goes through different circumstances. Some were able to break that vicious cycle of minimum paying job and move forward, some are still struggling in hope of getting a break some day, and somebody decided to go back.

If you are pointing out Canadian public healthcare system, you might be surprised to know that even US is moving toward public healthcare system similar to Canada or some European countries for underprivileged.

Me: What's so great about Canada?
Other Person (OP): ooo, we have free health care. In the US, you'd pay close to $1200-$1500 a year for insurance premiums (on insurance through employer)
Me: Really? but you are paying lot of taxes
OP: oooo, we all have to pay taxes
Me: but...but..you are also paying about $900 a year in OHIP premiums. Won't you rather pay another $300 and actually have a choice in what care you get???
OP: What? What OHIP premium? What are you talking about? You lie! sob! sob! you lie!!!

You forget one thing.
Canada is an industrialised nation (similar to USA) which allows every tom, dick or harry who will not be allowed into the USA (except IT professionals).
for example, I find the following people in Canada who came through the point system and not only them but their uneducated spouses too (other than IT)
M.Sc. (Biology)
M. COm
MA
etc.. Etc...
Now these people will never be allowed into the USA nor can they find a job there and move to USA even after getting the passport. So they have no coice except Canada and they will try to brainwash you by saying that Canada is the best as they have no choice but to stay here.

Please the health care here is not free it is very expensive and for that money the quality is very bad. You are treated as though someone is doing you a favour.
As it is they get healthy immigrants here and by the time you really need health care you have paid a lot into the system....and the quality of healthcare except for some downtown Toronto hospitals is pathetic.
My father was nearly killed by wrong diagnosis at a hospital here; they did MRI everything but could not see the problem.
They kept him in hospital for 8 days and discharged him. This was twice over 3 month period. Said he was fine.
He went on a visit to India and there again had the same symptoms and there 1 MRI and the doctor diagnosed that if he was not operated immediately he would be gone within a week.
The doctor’s diagnosis after the operation was correct as he had a stone in his kidney the size of a golf ball, his gall bladder had to be removed, and his stomach was full of pus.
Cost including everything $2000.00 CAD and they cured him, he is taking no medicines now.
Here just pray to god that you do not have anything serious as you will never be cured or you will eventually die as the doctors are useless.
The hospitals are clean and the care by the nurses is good but when the doctors are useless then no use of having a clean and fancy hospital.
Btw...my father refuses to come back to Canada and says it better in India as even though he is a senior citizen and basically for him the hospital stay was free but they nearly killed him and he says the ticket to Canada is not free.
After that I have also lost trust in the so called free Canadian health care system.
I asked the family doctor here and he said that you know its very difficult to diagnose a stomach condition. I told him how can you miss a kidney stone that big and how come the doctor in India saw it. His answer was well may be that doctor good.
i have filed a complaint with the ministry and the hospital but i know nothing will come out of it in the end. But i want them to be aware.
